It depends how much you want to spend to make this decision. if you have the money i would got with a diesel. diesel trucks you can get a progammer and get an extra 100+ hp just pressing a few buttons. they also get pretty good gas mileage and the engines last a long time should be able to get 300,000+ with easy if you take care of it

Re: Help me choose my next truck!
My dad's tundra has a pretty nice 4.7 in it. It produces 276 horsepower, and 313 lb·ft of torque.
But it's only a 2WD...gets 18 highway?
Also, you could look at extended cab sonoma's/S-10's.
Nice little trucks that get good gas mileage. Couldn't tell you the bed length though.

If you dont want to take anyones word for it i understand. I can give you a good refference point to look at. Find any good size construction site and take a look at what vehicles are in the lot. You'll find it looks more like a ford lot than a construction site.
The one im at right now for example has 30 trucks on it along with about 30 cars. Of those trucks 22 are fords, 1 toyota, 6 chevy, 1 dodge. The school i did last year in bithlo, fl. did not have one truck on the lot that wasn't a ford. If that doesnt give you a clue i dont know what will.

Re: Help me choose my next truck!
Tall order with fuel economy needing to be above 17MPG. The only truck that may come close in 1/2 ton flavor is the chevy 5.3. Depending on your towing requirements there are some smaller V8's that will do the trick. The 4.6 ford engine is weak as water but will get close to 20MPG.
I still firmly believe that the Nissan Titan beats any half ton truck in all areas other than fuel economy. Most certainly in towing capacity and power. It is one hell of a truck but you can expect around 14 in the city and 16 on the highway. Test drive one even if you knock it off your list due to its poor mileage. I have owned a titan and I am on my second armada. They are pure beasts in the power category and ford, chevy and all the others wish they had the power that the 5.7 endurance motor produced. I would even put the 5.7 endurance up against the 6.2 GM motor that they put in the caddy. I drove an escalade for the weekend before we purchased our last armada.
If you have the need for high towing capacity and want the fuel economy then you will need to move to a 3/4 ton diesel. Personally I would try to find a low mileage 2002 F250.
