Help me choose my next truck!

This isn't a war thread about how much one truck is better than the next.

    What I need:
a full size 4x4 truck with a back seat that will meet or improve on my current gas mileage with my 2001 ford f-150 V6 fleet truck. It's been a while since I last calculated the mileage but I might be getting somewhere around 17 mpg with mostly highway driving with a little bit of stop and go driving here and there. Towing capacity is important because I intend to have this truck for a while and I may want to find a boat or something else that may need towing.

    What I want:
I want an 8' bed but I know I can only get a 3/4 ton if I want any sort of extended cab. If I am to not get an 8' bed then a 6' bed will be my minimum. None of that 5' or 4.5' bed crap...

    What you need to do:
Post about your experiences with the different brands of trucks. Please don't enter the realm of maintenance issues and just stick to the actual use of the truck.

Mention the specs of the truck first; year, make, model, motor size, cab size, bed size, mpg; city and highway, towing mpg; city and highway (if known), and towing capacities.

In regards to the mpg, don't post the numbers advertised by the makers.

Do larger motors get better gas mileage while cruising, do smaller motors burn more because they have to work harder?

I had a 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 Crew Cab...never had one problem with it. I refuse to get into a silly car debate with someone on this about one being better then another. Just letting yall know what worked for me.

Could take a chance and get a mahindra once they come out, though I don't think the 4 door has a huge bed. The two door does have a 7.5 foot one.

It is diesel, but gets 30mpg. Can haul 1.32 tons.

    2007.5+ GMC/Chevy CrewCab 4x4 SB 6.6L Diesel.

Being a diesel you can tune it to do whatever you want when you want via EFI Live.

They ride great and you can change out the shocks to Fox or Blisteins and make it ride on clouds. Depending on the tune I can get 22-23+ hwy.

If you want any more info on this there are some great site you can check out. Here is one of them. http://www.duramaxforum.com/forum/

chevy 3/4 ton 4 door ~2007(and ext cab ~2005) with 8 foot bed. Have had the duramax in both for company vehicles. 18mpg hwy 14mpg towing. And by towing I mean 10000+ depending on wind or larger box trailers mpg drops but never been less than 12. Expensive but very dependable. If you haul often you will be very pleased.

My friend had a dodge with gas engine and got 15 mpg hwy(might just be the way he drove) but for towing it was crap. The motor went out once under warranty and then after warranty was up the new engine crapped out too. Cummins is a good engine but I would steer clear of dodge gas engines for towing.

Most of the folks I know with ford go with them cause they are cheaper. All the ones I know that haul have older fords. They run about the same as the chevys on mpg.

Talk to one guy and he might get 20 on hwy and another with same make/model gets 17. I guess it depends on how you drive.

My personnal truck is a 3/4 ton chevy with 300k. It is a tough sob. I know more people that get 200k+ out of chevrolets than any thing else. But I know people with 1/2 ton fords and a half a million miles.

Chevrolet has always done me well, but ford is a good truck too. I really wouldn't mess with anything else.

If u really wanna get into pricy trucks that suck nuts, Take a look at the GMC Topkick, Fucking monster of a truck but 8MPG...If i were u id stick with anything Ford or chevy, They are the best 2 truck makers out there, i personally like the f250-350 super duty's years 2000-2006. I own a 1991 F150 with a straight six 5speed, 200,000miles+ still running strong, Althought ive come to the point where i might end up start looking for something else as im not sure how much money i really wanna put into this thing for all the little odds and ends shes got. But i love her and even for a straight 6 shes got some power.

I've heard from many sources that some 1/2 tons with big block V8's will get at least 20 mpg while cruising on the highway. Is this not true?
