Well, actually the guy was having his rights encroached upon. He shouldn't have to show any ID without probable cause, yet the cops were asking for it. When anyone just agrees to do whatever someone says regardless of the legality/consequences then they are having their rights taken away. He chose to say no instead of complying. We can argue that the tea parties are stupid, that the million man march was a waste of time, or many other "protests" but standing up for what is right, no matter how large or small, is what this country was founded on.

Those were all organized events too though Civil, which is a big difference. Folks knew what their message was.

This guy shows up with gun on hip and video camera going on a traffic stop... at seemingly random to the cop. He was within his rights not to comply with the cop, nobody is arguing that, what we are arguing is his methods to prove points, which seem to be egoist and just plain dumb.

Great, and just a few months ago we had a cop in Dallas detain a family at their vehicle in a hospital parking lot while the wife's mom died. The wife eventually disobeyed the cop and went in the hospital to be with her dying mom, the husband obeyed the cop and got to the room too late. I see your egoist and dumb argument and raise you with a prick with a bat belt. Would I do what the guy did? Nope. Would I suggest it to others? Nope. Does that make it wrong? Nope. All we need is for everyone to lay down and take it, then everything will be just fine, right?

Now you are confusing what I am saying.

Should you obey just because the officer 'says so'? Hell no.

Should you show up to a traffic stop to video tape it with a gun on your belt? Nope.

My feeling is that he knew the gun might instigate further mess ups by the cop and wanted to have a 'gotcha' on tape. This makes him a jackass, plain and simple. He didn't care about gun rights, he didn't want to 'make a stand' he wanted a 'gotcha' so he could get his GF out of a ticket and see how far he could go to fuck with a cop. This makes anyone who is fighting for open carry rights look like the same sort of jackass, that is my argument.

You keep bringing up other situations, I am only arguing this one.

And my point is what are the other options? Are your peaceful demonstrations doing anything to change what cops say/do? My bet is this cop sat around with all his other cop buddies and said, "you will never believe what happened to me today..." Yes, I agree the guys goal was to get the cop being a total liar on tape, and to prove that cops lie to get compliance. I would say he was successful in proving his point. Did he need to show up, have a camera, or wear a firearm? Not at all, but saying he puts all gun owners in a bad light just for exercising his legal rights is unnecessary IMO. I am not of the opinion of F the police. My nephew is a cop, and I play soccer with a few cops as well. Some are great, some treat it just like any other job, and some absolutely abuse their powers. I am all for exposing those last some by any LEGAL means necessary.

And we have all seen the videos where the cop unnecessarily beats the living crap out of someone, and it gets caught on tape. If this were one of those cases everyone would be on the other side saying good thing he showed up with his camera because all caps suck, and while it would be good that he showed up the belief that all cops are that way would be just as unnecessary.

the point here is the guy's a fuckin douche bag. Leave the cops alone, they're doing their jobs. Why the hell would you just randomly go bust someone's balls at their job? That is douchebaggery at it's finest.

Yea, if you know some of these cops are abusing their powers, go fuck with them, not just any random cop doing a routine traffic stop.

Yeah, because we all know there is a list out there of the good cops and bad cops. Maybe I should just call Santa and get it from him, find out who has been naughty and nice.

My question is would there have been an issue if he just walked up with a camera, or if he had just been walking down the street with an open carry firearm? If no then why is there an issue if he is legally carrying, and legally filming the stop just to make sure nothing happened to his GF?

Oh ok so now every cop is a bad cop, so we should just go harass any cop we see on the street because he might be one of the crooked ones?

There's an issue because he was instigating the cops...he was being a ball breaking little prick "just because he could". That's the issue.

It was a simple routine traffic stop? What the hell would make you think something horrible was going to happen to his GF? If it even was his GF in that car.

Well, to use the cop's logic why should the cop care if he has a video camera if he plans to do nothing wrong?

Nowhere did I say all cops are bad, but I have no issue with taping any/all cops as long as you don't interfere to try to find the bad ones.
