Nope, the cop was well within his rights to ask the guy to step away, which the cop did, and the guy complied.

As I see it, as soon as the kid interjected himself into the situation, then he is now partr of the situation. Why shouldn't the cop question the kid's motives? It isn't as if he was just walking by the scene, he became part of the scene.

So what law did the guy break to become "part of the situation"? Was it carrying a video camera, videoing the police officer while performing his duty, openly carrying a firearm, or some other thing he did?

I'm thinking of something but am not quite sure how to word it or explain it. Are rights simply a list of things that we are allowed to do or are rights things that are not in the list of things that are against the law?

When did I say that? That makes no sense.

We're not talking about hypotheticals....we're talking about the situation the cop was in...

If the cop is doing a routine traffic stop and gets surrounded by 5 gangbangers carrying uzis....yea, I'd think he'd be more concerned about them than the kid with a cam and a sidearm. But that's not the particular situation we're talking about is it.

Like hawg said, just because it's legal doesn't mean it's right.

I agree. Should he be concerned about it? Yes. Should he be observant? Yes. Should he ask the guy to back up? Yes. Should he follow the guy for however long he did, then ask him to show ID? I will leave that one for you to answer.

So we want to give cops the ability to determine what is right and wrong not based on the laws, but based on what they think is right and wrong? Sounds like a superb plan to me, why not?

Why does the list of laws have to be so long and so detailed? Are the rules at TTP describing "non-teamplay" that specific?

Just because something isn't written as illegal doesn't mean it's right.

If you were with your children on your front lawn and you see a complete stranger, (lets take it a step further) he was dressed like a thug and he's got a gun on his belt and he was just simply walking down the sidewalk, would that bother you? Would you quickly take your kids inside? Did you hear about the woman in FW sitting on the park bench and someone comes behind her and stabs her back severing 90% of her spinal cord? What makes you think the guy walking down the sidewalk, someone you don't know, isn't gonna pull his gun on you and your kids as soon as he makes it in front of your house and open fire?

Up to the point where he pulled the gun he was well within his rights I guess...

Sounds like you just like to argue because I haven't seen anyone say cops aren't supposed to act according to law.
