So a friend sent me this message on face book concerning this site, that apparently uses public info from phonebooks, networking websites, etc... to compile data about individuals. Go to the site (www.spokeo.com) and type in your name and see what comes up. It had all of my family info (age, sex, race, family members, address, everything) listed for public viewing. You can remove yourself from it by clicking the "privacy" link at the bottom of the page and following the instructions.

This is kinda creepy.

6 year old address and it says I'm in my mid 50s and own a $1.5million home....

Wasn't very accurate for me.

It thinks I am still in a relationship (haven't been for over a year now)
It thinks I am a home owner
It is wrong on my length of residence (it says 11 years, I know it is at least 16)
It says the house I live in is worth over 1 million $ (it definitely is not)
It lists the same person twice as living in my house.
And it got the income completely wrong as well.

That site sucks.

And it couldn't even determine my age even though it is on my FaceBook AND myspace.

Useful when you are doing jobs online and dealing with people online. I like to know who it is I am working with.

Hmm, they have my sign wrong. They put Leo, but I was born just this side of Virgo for a few days. Mid 20's it says...more like late 20's so you know the data is old or at least not mined and updated regularly. In a relationship. Really? I'd like to meet here, hope she's hot. No kids though, you got that wrong Spokeo. My hobby is my travel? Must have seen the trips to the East Coast my job sends me on. Home owner, got that right, but got my parents' address instead. Hmm...and estimated the home value at $1M+...maybe my parents can sell to Spokeo. They got other stuff wrong too. Methinks they need to work on it a bit more.
