brakes are a bitch / hail

Well me and my dad had a fun time getting the calipers off his 01 Tundra today.

The caliper mounting bracket bolts felt like they were glued in there, so after about an hour of trying different methods and using ungodly amounts of 3 in 1, they finally gave. but we couldn't take the caliper off because we were afraid of pinching the rigid brake line that came from the caliper, to a bracket, then it changed into a rubber line. We tried to get the bracket off, but the bolt was stripped...so he went to ACE to see if he could find a tool that would get it off, in the meantime I texted blakeman our issue and we talked on the phone about it, he told me about a little tab that sits in between the bracket and the rigid brake line. We got that off and that gave us enough room to move the caliper without fucking up the brake line.

Anyways, after we replaced the brake pads on the left side, we put everything back together and started on the right side.

Long story short, left side took around 2 hours with stripped bolts and tremendous amounts of rust that acts as a super glue. Right side took about 10 minutes since we learned what not to do.

Ever wonder what causes squeaky brakes? This does.

Top is new, bottom is old.

ALSO, I forgot to mention while my dad was out, it started hailing pretty bad here....look at the size of these bitches!

Or if you have old, bad rotors. But this is irrelevant, the point is the pads were worn down to the point that the little clip was scraping against the metal, giving a warning that the pads were going bad.

caliper bolts are actually glued in, its called lock tight. A little heat from a torch will make them come out real quick and easy.

I have done brakes on so many damn vehicles. My brother had me do them on his jeep a few weeks ago. Had one caliper we couldnt get to go back in... c-clamp with a nut welded on it and a impact FTW!

Oh and those little clips, I pull those off and throw them away, they are a pain in the ass when replacing brakes.

Just a little bragging here, but me and my auto shop partner had a drum brake taken apart and put together within 4 minutes.

    Using these...buy them...totally worth it.
