The larue is nice but i'm not sold that it can take the abuse I would put it through.
There are several other AK mounts actually Toker.

There is also a BP-02 mount that I have my eye on that sits damn near flush with the receiver cover but uses the standard soviet side rail.

JMW that isnt a carry handle, it attaches to a rail on the other side of the AK about half way down the receiver. It is tall like that because it comes along the side then up and over the receiver cover on top. They didn't put them on top because they wanted the ability to be able to field strip the internals without taking the scope off the weapon.

Most look about like this with a stud on the bottom that goes through the hole in the middle of the carry handle.
