Severed dog head brought back to life
Note that this is simultaneously awesome and legitimately horrifying. FYI the head is sterilized so it's not feeling pain, but, um, if you're squeamish you might not want to watch this. It gets more than a little bit disturbing when the dog head starts licking its nose.

Man, if those epic commies could do this in the 40s, why isn't the world overrun with zombie dogs by now? Someone should send this to the PETA.

Re: Severed dog head brought back to life
didn't you ever take chordate anatomy or human physiology?
you have to think of bodies like machines. Especially muscles like the heart. And then innate responses that aren't controlled by complex brain function, but simply nervous reaction (to sound, light, heat, pain, etc).
We did some pretty terrible things to frogs to show this in physiology lab. Turtles too.

That was so god damn cool, and yet so god damned sad.
Surprising how often those go together.

Re: Severed dog head brought back to life
aaaaaaaand so damn fake.
severed head isn't going to jerk and move around. The only muscles which could move it would be the jaw muscles which clearly aren't the motive factor in some of it's movements.
The film was staged as soviet propaganda, based on real experiments.
