Corgi's can be aggressive and territorial little fucks. The officer shot it in the leg to neutralize it, and I highly doubt this was done unless the dog charged at him. Yeah, I don't think a Corgi is gonna do much damage, but it can be one hell of a distraction gnawing at your crotch.
Now the caged Pit Bull? Seems kinda wrong, a caged animal isn't a distraction. But than I spose it could pose a problem with some type of remote lock the owner presses to release it. I can certainly believe the pit bull, invaded like that, will also be a territorial aggressive little bastard, and CAN do a shit load of damage to a human being.
SWAT go into these situations with very specific training/conditioning. All that gear they wear isn't just for show. Shit these guys wear harnesses so they can be supported by one other to lean backwards into staircases where getting visibility above you means life or death. They do what they have to do to stay safe.
I will refrain from discussing the reason the SWAT came in, because I see that as excessive force, but this seems to be standard procedure when dealing with possible drug dealers. (Considering the violence often involved in those raids)

My bitch is due process of law. Warrant is not a free pass. It doesnt signify guilt. I see the use of swat becoming a reckless habit of police forces. To me it is a bragging right for depts and they increase size and duties of swat. Now we are subjects under military rule. This is america and if I am suspected of a crime, I am still innocent until proven guilty and deserve full due process and respect. Being suspect in a crime does not mean you lose your rights as an american, nor should you be treated any different than any other citizen.
More and more I see an overuse of force(swat) I support having a safe society, I support prosecuting criminals. However it needs to be done right. There are obvious times where situations need to be taken control of, where the suspect is the aggressor. Like I said, drugs are very bad and have ruined many lives, we need to fix our society, but overly aggressive police forces acting like military commandos is not america.
Of course there are criminals that act stupid, resist arrest, spit on the cops and the like; then by all means tackle them, taze them, etc. They pull a gun, well, match the force.
Protocol doesnt make it right. I disagree with many protocols, fire, ems, police, they all have bad protocols. Working for change and creating a truly progressive public safety system is something I desire. Turning police force into military like forces is regressive. Creating fire depts that work from every angle to protect the community is something I have been involved with for years. Running 100mph is dangerous and I call out depts that are reckless in their response. Its not just police that I have a problem with.

Has anybody noticed what this guy is "guilty" of? He was a pot dealer for the love of Science. They got him to plead guilty to possession of pot paraphernalia.... This guy doesn't sound like the type to go down in the blaze of glory over pot. Coke, X, Heroin then you might have good reasoning that someone is going to violently protect his shit,...... but some guy peddling Hippy Lettuce? C'mon, No reason to bust in in the early AM, nor to shoot the man's dogs.
