Re: iced tea
Why is it that EVERYTIME someone says you're wrong...they're "Looking for an argument or picking a fight with you?" Jesus...you are wrong. I'm from where they actually referred to rednecks as oil field workers...and not simply someone "from the South". The term was used LONG before Foxworthy used it...by decades.
For a big tough Marine...it kills you to ever be wrong. Kinda sad.

Re: iced tea
Im not talking about everyone. Im talking about you. You have more arguments on these forums then anyone else. Why is that?
I can handle being wrong but im not. The definition is clear. Where an oil rigger fits the definition its only a piece of the group. Yeah the term has been around long before foxworthy used it. I didnt even see anyone say anything about that.
Now im starting to think you have problems that dont really include anyone on these forums. Why do you feel the need to bring me being a Marine into this? I mean you've been trying to get a rise out of me for the last few pages. Maybe its time to let it go.

Re: iced tea
Uhh...I don't think I'm the first one on TPG to claim that you think you're an expert on anything you discuss at TPG. Even when you're wholly proven wrong? Why is that?
EDIT:
..and I mentioned Foxworthy because that IS why everyone thinks your definition is correct...Last edited by Guyver; 04-08-13 at 10:46 PM.

Re: iced tea
Well you're both wrong.
The dictionary may show the slang modernized version of it being disparaging to southerners... And they may have used it extensively in the oilfields... But they used it in the mid to late 1800s for poor white farmers who, like the oil workers also were out in the sun a lot and had red necks. By 1900 they were also using the term politically and proudly calling themselves rednecks in addition to wearing red bandanas around their necks.
The term likely goes back a lot further than that though to europe for the same sun-burnt reasons.
So... :P to you both.deputyfestus liked this post
