Re: need new sunglasses... suggestions?
I know some of you have dropped like $250-350 on a pair of sunglasses so it would be absurd to state it was a waste of money.....lol
it maybe just a status issue with some of you.....eheheh

Polarized or not will not have a drastic effect on your eyeballs falling out because of DEADLY UV RAYS!!!!
Plenty of people walk around without sun glasses, with polarized glasses, and some with just regular shades.
Each to their own but its funny to hear the marketing at work when people state polarized will save your eyes.

Polarized lenses were recommended to me by my eye doctor, not some marketer. I've got a spot on my one retina that requires constant monitoring and he recommended polarized for extra protection. My wife and kids both have low retina pigmentation, and it's even more important for them, and he recommended polarized lenses for them as well.
His general explanation was what I provided. Polarized lenses do a better job at diffusing the light and allow the right levels of light into your eye. Polarized lenses don't need to be as dark as non-polarized to be effective. Dark lenses = dilated pupils and the light that gets in around the periphery of your sunglasses has a greater effect on the eye.

Not everyone has a spot on their retina and sounds like a genetic issue that was passed down. We all have our own genetic issues but to say everyone needs polarized is a little extreme.
There is a lot more that goes to this.
How long will you be out in the sun?
Do you have bad eyes?
etc etc
If a person is working manual labor outside all day then yea maybe he needs polarized glasses but for recreation any shade should do.
I just dont see the point of dropping 250 bones on polarized glasses with a certain name brand so i can be identified......
Polarized for all day use: fishing, boating, afternoon baseball
non polarized for driving short distance or just a quick trip to the store.
250 bucks? never.
