    Your AL Cy Young Winner?

For me, no question it's Felix Hernandez. I've even played under the name "King Felix for Cy Young" just to see what the reactions might be. Sadly, the top 2 are "Who's King Felix?" and "Sorry but C.C. Sabathia deserves it." People say that the main reason C.C. deserves it is for his win total (21 to 13 edge). Never mind that the Cy Young is awarded to the best pitcher whereas wins is basically pitcher's skill + team offense and defense. Looking by numbers that focus solely on a pitcher's skills, Felix beats C.C. in strikeouts, quality starts, ground outs, and walks. Anyway, I'm just curious to what the general consensus is and how right or wrong I am. Hell, feel free to name someone else who you think deserves it if those two don't.

Unfortunately, despite the fact that wins is the stat with the most variance due to a number of different factors, they do play a major part in who wins the Cy Young. Usually, a pitcher with a 20 win season is going to be hard to beat, especially if their supporting numbers are good, not necessarily the best. Although Felix did have the better under the hood numbers, and CC had the better run support, it's hard to discount the fact that CC had much harder divisional games due to having to face the offenses of the Blue Jays, Rays, and Red Sox. The only real divisional challenge Felix had to face was the Rangers. I can see the arguments for either pitcher winning the award, but there's no denying the W-L record is a major factor. Being barely above .500 is a major blow to Felix's chances.

    felix vs:
    NYY - 0.35 era 26IP
    BOS - 1.23 era 7.1IP
    TOR - 1.13 8IP
    BAL - 0.56 16IP

his highest ERA was against texas and LAA 4.28, 4.13

should be felix but it will be CC cuz of the wins and he plays for the yankees.

    On the flipside...

    CC vs AL West:

    SEA: 0.86 ERA 21IP
    OAK: 1.52 ERA 23.2IP
TEX: 1.50 ERA 6IP (Not a large data sample, but let's see how he does in ALCS).

The stats say Felix and CC should swap jerseys. Of course hell freezes over if that ever happened.
