Re: BCS Bowl Thread
I saw a similar play in another game where they allowed a runner to keep going with a hand/wrist used to help him gain balance. Either way, it would still have been 2nd and short with plenty of time if they ruled him down. Not like it was 4th down. They make a few yards kick the field goal and same result.
I think the final TD was the best show of Oregons offense. That was the play style they had all season and it took the whole game to get adjusted and make that work. Oregon took big gambles and it payed off several times, without that they probably would have been down by more. Auburn getting stopped at the goal line then the penalty on Oregon was big too. Lots of good plays, most of them defensive. I cant say enough for how well both defenses adjusted to stop big powered threats.

All things considered, both teams played pretty good defense. If Cam puts just the slightest bit of touch on 2 different passes (4th and goal to the wide open FB and a long pass to a wide open receiver) to wide open receivers, we are talking blowout. Auburn's goaline defense was a major factor in this game. I was impressed with Oregon's tempo, but for all the hype about their speed with the ball, they didn't look any faster than a few teams in the SEC.
The Auburn secondary is terrible, I'm surprised Oregon couldn't put more balls down the field than they did.

if Thomas doesn't overthrow a couple balls, score might of been different as well. It went both ways on the mistakes. And Oregon didn't put more down because Chip was being a complete dumbass half the game "Oh, we just torched the secondary 2 plays in a row, its time to run it up the middle!"

Fair enough. I wondered why he didn't keep throwing at them. I guess in the end it's safer to go with what got you there, but it was public knowledge to the entire civilized world that auburn's secondary was suspect (and that's being generous).
I will say this, there were a few times that Thomas went back to pass and Fairley was up in his grill almost immidiately. Perhaps that first sack that caused a fumble altered Chip's decision to stay away from the deep passing game.

I have to agree with you, the pressure probably led them away from the long pass. I was disappointed that the oregon running game never got established. It seems as if they forgot they had swinging option plays. I guess the front line holding the middle and linebackers with very good lateral speed stopped it.
And congrats to red for having the most picks right, just not as high on the points. I missed on quite a few of the games, and was shocked on a few. Really figured nebraska and wisconsin would win. Was a good season, now I will be sad for I do not like basketball so much, and baseball is only fun live.

Oregon's O line was to small and to slow. They should have thrown more wide reciever screens, they worked very well for them. Oregon had no chance at running the ball, you can arm tackle their little running backs. Play of the game was goal line stand, a bigger running back would have busted in to the end zone. Speaking of the run at the end, it was called right. I felt as I was watching high school football and it was rather boring.
