Have any of you ever owned a WOLF? If you have would it be something that I could have with kids around? How do they act with human when you raise them being love'y ?

Just curious because I've always wanted to have a WOLF as a dog and to raise him up to be my bird dog/Hog hunting dog.

Yes and they are great. I had one growing up and if a kid got near it no else aside from my family would be able to retrieve the child. He simply would not let an adult get near the kid that he did not know. The one i have now is a mix 50 50 malamute and eastern timber wolf. She is a bit different because she is a recue and was basically tortured for the first 2 years of her life. The best and brightest dogs i have ever owned either were or had wolf or coyote in them. Another year and i think im going to breed her with a white eastern timber that a family friend has.

Make sure you check the laws in your area. Some places it is illegal to have one. Like here in florida it has to have a blood test to determine actual content. If more then 50% they have to be registered. Of which blood wise samatha is a registered wolf in this state.

There was a guy at my old cabin that had a wolf as his pet. He had to be soooo cautious, all the time, it hardley seemed worth it. He had to make sure people didn't approach him too fast....make sure it was securely contained and controlled at all times. After all.....that thing is still mostly "wild", and completely unpredictable. All it takes is once.

Crazy stupid. Wolves are NOT domesticated......just because some people have had no issues, does not mean it's a good idea. If something were to happen...it could not only end (or severely damage) someone else's life, but you would end up paying for it (in one way or another) for the rest of your life.

    Get a German Shepard.

My great grandparents had one, he was a bit touchy when kids(me) were around. But seeings as I was only around 2-3 times a year he did pretty good, mostly just growled at me if I was invading his space, eventually would let me close to him.

What did he do catch one and decide to keep it? Its more about having it from a pup. Any animal can turn and some just never were any good. I had to have one put down that was shepard and chow. He would bite anything that came near him and not just a snip literally try to rip shit off of whatever it was. Just like pits. Most animals are not inherntly mean but with the right treatment you can most definitely make them mean.

I will agree shepards are good pets and pretty smart as well.

Let me add if you plan on taking it hunting to any extent then its a bad idea to get one.

Try one of these dogs. I have 2 of them and they are quite the dog. Part wolf. Professionally bred to an acceptable, trainable animal.

I have one that looks similar to the picture of the grey and black minus the white and brown underbelly on that page. He's rott, coyote, and malamute. I did see on that page that is says dna testing suggests there is no wolf in the breed. I bet its a damn good dog though. Mixed breeds very rarely have the issues of illness that a full breed does.

My uncle has one. I don't think he's ever had a problem with her.
