The reason i say this is because my dad thinks that internet pretators will get me on this site because he saw me reading some stuff and someone said part of my real name "cam" which is in my username

so he freaked out and I tried to tell him otherwise and he says someone will get on and get close to me, then i told him that if anyone starts talking to me inappropriatly i would get them kicked off the site or i would leave.

A good way to solve this problem is for one of the High Admins to get on comms with your Dad and explain how well this site is watched over and that anything of this nature ABSOLUTLY WOULD NOT BE TOLLORATED and the proper steps would be taken if it did. Thats my suggestion. -Yvain

On a serious note, I hope the phase passes but to some extent (not regarding the username per say) it is a real concern. The best way to solve it is to talk it through, and try not to be slick. I had the same issue with my parents back in 2001 when I got my domain name and posted details about myself on my own website. Eventually I gave in, took it down, and as I got older it wasn't as much of a problem because they knew I was aware of what is and isn't good practice.

I'm sure you will not have any problems here at TTP, as we are mostly all mature/adults and would never tolerate anything of this sort. Besides, having part of your name on your profile would not give a predator enough information to do any harm.

The only time you would ever have to worry is if YOU directly gave someone your personal information. No worries bud, hope to still see you around.

The key is to not give out information as to where you live last name, etc. When people ask where your from just say the state. A state is a pretty big place to look for someone. When someone asks your name, give them either your user name like the one that you use on the forums and in game. DO NOT EVER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES give out your last name.

in my experience, most people on this server are nice, polite when it comes to real life, and respect not knowing personal details UNLESS you wish to give it out. THEN the ball is in your court. The trick is to know what and what not to give out.

I would suggest that you get your dad and a site admin on coms together so they can aliviate any fears he might have, like everyone else has said. I wish you good luck in this matter.

We certainly understand your Dad's concern.

It's a given that website security, identity security and security in general is your responsibility, and the responsibility of your guardian.

Although TTP, it's admins, site mods and reg's will do everything possible to remove, administer and censor any illegal or inappropriate behavior, ultimately the decision about where you socalize and how you game falls to you and your parents.
