I'm in class so I cant really read the longer posts but i wanted to heavily emphasize that the thought of joining is just in the back of my mind at the moment. I'm not 100% on anything just yet.

Re: Weight loss help?
I’m a bit of a workout connoisseur. In the Army one of my additional dutys is the unit fitness trainer (gone is the master of fitness designator). Part of this entails overseeing the squadrons training program and also teaching a special population PT program that is for soldiers who are overweight and out of shape and lucky for me I get paid to work out 3 times a day.
I’ve been pretty fanatical about fitness for a long time, but over the last few years has been the first chance I’ve had to work with people who are out of shape and bring them back (or for some, for the first time) into shape. I think nutrition has been touched on already, but since you are looking into the military I strongly suggest you check out crossfit or P90X (we focus on crossfit, but P90x has some similar workouts).
Fort Hood is the Army’s testing ground for functional fitness which emphasizes practical strength and conditioning over being able to run 10 miles at a 7min pace. Because of this we have changed some of the gyms here on post to include more kettlebells, pullup bars, boxes etc.
All of the soldiers on my program do regular PT with their platoons in the morning and then at 1600, their asses belong to me. We focus on 3 days of crossfit with two days of weight training (upper and lower body). Lots of crossfit sites have work outs of the day (WOD) which makes it pretty easy since it’s planned out for you. We use CrossFit Fort Hood: Be Unstoppable. since its run by some of the instructors here on post. If you do decide to go that route, youtube will be your best friend in figuring out what some of the workouts look like.
We’ve seen pretty spectacular results from incorporating it into our regular PT as well. The last test we took saw an increase in the troop average of 30 points and if I remember correctly we had something like 20 people go into the extended scale.
By all means it’s not an end all be all of workouts, but for weight loss and muscle toning it’s hard to beat.
Also X2 on the veggie omelet being complete crap. I want to find whoever made that thing and punch them in the junk with a fork.

Re: Weight loss help?
Pure protein and fiber works for me. I'm a wrestler and keeping weight is pretty important and dropping to 145 from 160 in a week doing this and then being able to maintain it from just protein and fiber. Also went with a pretty intense daily practice so diet AND exercise got me there.
They're just too shiny

Re: Weight loss help?
As your getting quite a bit of advice, I will just say this: Do a little bit better that you did before and don't get down if you mess up. If you have one bad day, get back on the train the next, don't let it spiral you down. Also, don't cut your calories to much, an active guy your age can burn calories pretty quick, just make sure they come from healthier places.

Lol haven't you noticed a trend on the tpg forums? It doesn't matter what you post, the minute something is posted suddenly everyone reveals that they are an expert on the matter and know everything there is to know about the subject. We are truly blessed to have so many experts on so many different topics contributing to the forums here on tpg.
