rifle seems in perfect condition except for a few slight blemishes on the stock. comes with 3 magazines (holds 3-4 bullets each) a leather belt case hold like 6-9 rounds 50 rounds or ammo. what kinda puts me off about it is that its a lever action rifle. i guess its no sniper rifle and you wouldn't be using it prone. i dont know guns just seems kinda odd. now she wants 400$ for it which my brother said was a good deal. if she would work out a payment plan with me it would be awesome. or she told me sell it for 500$ keep 100$ for my self

or i could buy the 38 probably cheaper but i dunno what it would run me to fix it i handled it had a build up of grime on the cylinder and the hammer wouldnt lock when pulled back was very tough to pull the trigger. was told it was probably a pretty old gun being a breech load also dunno how it was handled cause the grip was cracked. brother said its a gun youd want to collect and not fire(value i guess) but hell if i'm gonna buy a gun i'm gonna shoot the sunva bitch

Moving.....What are you thinking you will be using the gun for?

If you plan to hunt, there is NOTHING wrong with a lever. I have a 30/30 Marlin that I have owned for ~25 years, and has killed more deer than I could ever remember. I have other deer rifles, but the 30/30 goes with me every trip......and we can make another mark on the stock for the deer in my freezer right now.

As for pistols.....don't buy any of those pictured if you want to shoot. The first one is more of a collecter type gun, and should be bought with that in mind. Take it to a dealer, and see what an expert has to say about it.....just because it is old, doesn't mean it's necessarily worth anything. I have a 1922 Winchester .22 that is completely worthless when it comes to collecting, but I can circumcise a mosquito with it at 50 yards.

If it is shooting you want to do.....get yourself a .357 revolver ( S+W would be my choice). Great for home defense, and since you can also load .38 rounds in them, they make great, economical sense for the beginning shooter. Of my guns, my .357 is the one I shoot most......not only is it the cheapest to shoot, it's the most fun.

    Pretty much what Dex said.

What are your plans? I wouldn't use either of the hand guns. They would only be put into my "collection." If hunting is your angle the Savage would be a great gun for that. It already has a few dings in it so no big deal there. It isn't a collector gun so nothing there. It is however, an awesome shooting gun.

I also have a Marlin 30/30 lever action that I use some of the time. I use it if I am in heavy cover for short ranges as it is only Iron sights.

Are you new to guns and shooting? Do you have a place to shoot? Maybe a smaller caliber.

If you are just looking for a gun to shoot there are quite a few other options for equal or not much more money that would be new. Minus the optics. Tikka is a good gun for around $500 that guarantees 1" 3 shot groups at 100yds. They are made by Beretta. Same as Sako. Sako is just 5 shot guarantee.

    Re: debating a gun purchase

A lever action is a durable mechanism and would serve well for hunting purposes, but if you aren't hunting then it probably isn't worth your time.

The Colt don't shoot and advise others not to shoot, it was the cheapest, crappiest thing that colt ever made. The gun is pot metal and the barrel is only lined with steel, it isn't steel all the way through. Worth less than $100 and only because it has Colt stamped on it.

The Uberti is still made and only worth a couple hundred bucks, it isn't a firearm according to the BATF since it shoots black powder but there may be state laws pertaining to black powder handguns so you should advise your aunt of those.

Honestly if you are new to shooting buy a .22 and see how much actual shooting you do. If you don't do a lot of recreational shooting and want a home protection piece then buy a shotgun and some buck shot and call it good. If you don't practice with a pistol at least once every couple of months then its rather worthless to have around.
