Internet Help Please!
I was wondering if yall could help me with an internet problem I've been having... My internet has been slllllllllloooooowwwww beyond belief... it took 2 minutes to load in the page to type this topic...
As for some details- I saw that the site was having trouble earlier, however my problem is all over the internet and BF2... I tried to play some BF2 and it was a joke... i couldn't move.. then I got kicked instantly for high ping (I usually have 20-25)..
I use earthlink through time warner cable... I guess I just wanted to know if there we're any scans or something I should run on my computer to clear things up and get back up to speed...
Thanks for the help--

RE: Internet Help Please!
power off your modem and router for 5 or 10 minutes...maybe do a reboot yourself, and go from there?
your not using any peer-to-peer software (bittorrent, emule, etc) are you? is it a shared setup? maybe one of your housemates is hogging all the bandwidth? maybe even try tracert-ing any of the sites that are slow and see where the high latencies occur/start.

RE: Internet Help Please!
If you're using Azureus or any bittorrent software, lower your upload to speed to around 5-20 kbps. Anything higher than that will make my connection slower too. And like said above, make sure you reset your modem and router. This resets your IP. Still having problems? You might have a virus or some nasty spyware. Better check for that ASAP. If that is indeed the problem, then quit going to all those free porn sites you perv.

RE: Internet Help Please!
Thanks for the help... but I'm still as slow as a snail... in response- there's only one computer in the house, and I haven't been using limewire or anything... I reset my modem multiple times and that didn't seem to work... the first thing I did was run a norton scan and a spybot spyware scan.. both clean... so I'm going out of town tomorrow and I'll just hope that it is all back to normal by the time i get back... and if not- Time Warner will be getting an earful from me...
Anyways Thanks for the help--

RE: Internet Help Please!
Think about anything that you have done that is different from the last time it was working normal no matter how minor. I once solved a slow speed issue by simply moving my modem back away from my wireless router. I had moved them the day before but it never came to mind that it could cause an issue.
Call your ISP or check your local outage report to see if there is any system wide issues.

RE: Internet Help Please!
Since Time Warner decides they need to go home at 5 I'll have to wait til tomorrow... but I'll be calling them us asking why my cable internet runs slow, and my cable TV is always skipping around and losing sound... I'm thinking they're probably related though..

RE: Internet Help Please!
If you've already checked out everything on your end to no avail then it's prbably time to call the cable company. I had the same issue (slow internet/poor digital TV quality) and the problem turned out to be a BNC connector that worked itself loose up on the utility pole.

A storm in the North Sea has left Britain and the Netherlands facing the worst flood threat in decades with tidal surges predicted early on Friday.
Flood defences have been put on alert on the entire Dutch coast and flood warnings are in place for the eastern and northern coasts of Britain.
A tidal wave in 1953 killed more than 2,000 people in both countries.
Oil platforms have been closed off the Norwegian coast and gales are expected in Germany and Denmark.
The Dutch transport ministry said this was the first time since 1976 the whole North Sea coast was under alert.
Maritime traffic in Rotterdam was halted, as the authorities closed the giant Maeslant barrier that guards entrance to the largest port in Europe for the first time since its construction in the 1990s.
It took half-an-hour for the two doors of the barrier across the Nieuwe Waterweg to meet, spanning a channel 360 metres wide.
Rotterdam will remain closed until 1700GMT on Friday, a port spokesman said.
One-third of the land mass of the Netherlands is under sea level.
Flood warnings
In Britain, the Thames River and Dartford Creek barriers are being shut as waters are forecast to surge 1.5 metres (5 feet) above normal sea levels.
UK government warned large areas of Norfolk and Kent coasts were at risk of severe flooding and the Met Office warned of gusts of up to 145km/h (90mph) for the Orkney and Shetland islands in Scotland.
The storm surge is expected to peak around dawn on Friday, and several hundred people have left their homes near Great Yarmouth in Norfolk.
Severe gale warnings were issued in Germany and Denmark, with wind gusts of up to 125km/h (80mph) expected.
In Germany, regions around the Elbe and Elm rivers were under flood warnings.
The North Sea storm affected oil industry in Norway, the fifth largest exporter of crude in the world, with the closure of oil platforms off its coast.
Norway's oil production of 220,000 barrels per day is expected to be slashed by 10% possibly leading to increases in the price of crude, already at record levels, experts say.
