Re: Speech Is My Hammer: Good Hip Hop
Glad you liked the tracks.
If you're looking for something fresh I'd recommend checking out pretty much any of the Five Deez albums; though Kommunicator can be a bit, I guess you would say, weird sometimes (very interesting beats, in my opinion).
I'd also recommend any album from Nujabes (R.I.P.), who was actually single man (producer and DJ). Most of his discography is instrumental tracks but albums such as the two Hydeout Productions collections feature guest artists who, as you heard, provide lyrical content.
Since I saw you gave a shout out to Guru, did you ever check out his Jazzmatazz albums? While I think the later Jazzmatazz albums were better than the earlier ones (especially Vol. 4), they're all pretty good.

i especially love tude to the bone, sacred scrolls, true education. the artists that make up the glitter billies are some characters. i actually have known them for a good while. i wish them the best and if u want to check out some good entertaining underground Austin rap, give em a shot.
long public access set. the first 2 minutes will et you hooked. Dylan CAmaro can make the beats and cut up the wax like a champ. Sharon Tude is a talented MC.Last edited by ATXPLEX; 03-30-11 at 04:55 AM.

Re: Speech Is My Hammer: Good Hip Hop
Those Mac Miller songs grew on me a bit after a few listens. I dug the beats pretty much right off the bat but my initial impression of Mac was just kind of "meh."
Kyleon and Z-Ro aren't really my cup of tea but I like the Texas representing regardless.
Hadn't heard of SonReal. Liked the track you posted and liked the other tracks I heard after it on YouTube. Will for sure check out some more from him.
I felt confused when watching that video, haha. The lyrics were pretty humorous but the style of track seemed, I don't know, kind of old school. That threw me off when I was watching the video.
I'll check out some more from them.

Sick tracks, Zhadox. Hadn't heard of any of those artists (except Common of course). Will definitely be sure to check out some more from all of them.
At that, it's awesome to see one of the reasons I created this thread is really coming to fruition. I'm convinced that the best means of being introduced to artists you've never heard of before, especially rap/hip hop artists, is through discussion with fellow lovers of the culture and music. In the span of fifteen (15) replies I've already been introduced to twelve (12) artists I had never heard of before. Whether that's a testimony to my lack of knowledge regarding rap/hip hop artists or a testimony to the connoisseur-ness of the rap/hip hop lovers of these forums... well, doesn't matter. It's just plain awesome.

It is. I usually go around different music forums just looking for new artist or I hear about them from the streets. Hopefully this thread can continue to grow and I can use it to further expand my collection.
As for me, I love all types of music, but I'm mainly attracted to hip-hop. Old school more than anything, but as of right now, I'm feeling a lot of these new artists coming out. As long as they don't change their style as they grow, but who knows.. They might still be good. One last video before I leave...
Favorite song by this guy..

Re: Speech Is My Hammer: Good Hip Hop
Despite any contradiction that could be seen with my previous posting of Little Brother's "The Listening," I figured I'd also throw out a few instrumental tracks that I like.
Fat Jon, of one the four members of Five Deez, is probably my favorite instrumental producer. Perhaps with the exception to the album he did with Styrofoam, every album of his is simply incredible.Fat Jon - Adhara [from Hundred Eight Stars, 2009]
Nujabes - Still Talking to You [from Hydeout Production First Collection, 2003]
DJ Greyboy - Mastered the Art [from Mastered the Art, 2000]
Tracks that won't embed properly due to playback restrictions:
- DJ Shadow - Building Steam with a Grain of Salt [from Endtroducing, 1996]
- Rjd2 - Cornbread, Eddie & Me [from Magnificent City Instrumentals, 2005]
