Well, first there are games on console that don't get ported over to PC, so you need a console to play them. Secondly a lot of people would probably rather invest $300 dollars in a console and not need to upgrade it again for 5+ years, over dropping likely $1000+ to get a PC that won't need to be upgraded for probably 2-3+ (less time and more money if you want to stay top-of-the-line).

Not saying Consoles are better, just pointing out that often its cheaper long-term for someone who just wants to play games to go console over PC.
