How to Report University Credibility is Compromised?
Where do i report this? Googling has turned up nothing. Does no-one enforce Educational Integrity and Credibility for Universities?
Shits waaaaay out of hand at UNCC, few examples from this semester alone:
- Ive got a class where the professor is litterally teaching another class (the previous prerequistate), verbatim, same EXACT power point slides as the last class, same EXACT tests, same EXACT material. He did this for the first 8 weeks, and has canceled the last 8. We've literally gone over nothing in the syllabus (yet we have a final and a semester project still due, ironic). So so the A ill get in this course will be showing up on my transcript as a grade for an entirely different course
- Ive got professors who do not even bother to show up for class, every class, yet expect students to still take exams and quizzes (given to us by the TA). Only shows up for a few minutes of the 3 hour lab's hes supposed to be directing.
And the most disgusting part? I am paying tuition for this.
Its only been shitty teachers in the Computer Science department. No, teacher is the wrong word to use, they'd have to actually teach something to earn that, lets go with urnals. Ive gone to the dean and assoc dean of the department, whom have placated me my chronic complaints and concerns. Should i try the dean of the university? I get the vibe they are just going to treat me as some piss-ant complaining student. Id rather have results, I dont wanna fuck with petitions, i dont wanna complain any more, this is stupid, beyond stupid, and its affecting my credibility.
Is there someone i can report this to to get the university inspected? Im totally cool with seeing the computer science department condemned...Last edited by Bunni; 04-25-11 at 03:19 AM. Reason: Clarified title

That sucks, Bunni. I have no idea how this sort of thing would be handled, but if you'd like I can ask my step dad who is a college professor.

Welcome to a big University? Some of the professors here record their lectures once and just play them for YEARS. They never show up and just play the video and you have to figure everything out. It is all out of hand really. Pay good money for higher learning and all you get is a recording of some asshat from 10 years ago.

[tongue in cheek]
I am shocked, utterly.

In all seriousness though, this is not surprising in the least. Disappointing, but not surprising. This mirrors and amplifies the shoddy ethic of the public education system K-12 to a tee.
In your circumstance, I'd likely try and talk to the Dean. Simply so that you could say that you did, indeed, give it the old college try. Then, if there were no change, I'd transfer and take my money elsewhere. On the way out, you could also offer a blistering editorial in the school paper and copy the local headliner as well for good measure.

Yeah, I would talk to the dean. Make sure you have a copy of the syllabus, too. At least at my university, those constitute a legally binding agreement between the teacher and the students.
At least though, in your case, you kind of know everything already being superbunni and all. Unfortunately, the rest of your classmates are not so lucky.enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P
Bigdog-Sweet home Alabama you are an idiot.

The bigger problem is that you are possibly/probably in the minority. With most people today they are happy to know nothing as long as they get the grade. Hopefully your classmates are the exception, as you are, and you can get some support.

Yeah, those are good ideas. I might even try just going to a local news station. I know here if something isn't right that should be people get the local news involved and shit gets taken care of pretty quickly. You just have to have proof. The syllabus and other students to back up what you're saying should do the trick though.
It should help them get their asses in gear as nobody wants bad press. What are you paying for exactly? And why should others pay for the same outdated shit over 2 different course? Those are some things you would probably want to ask but make it sound more professional and all, makes you sound more creditable.
I graduated from a smaller private university and actually know our President of the school. He has a dinner with the students every semester. Great way to build a relationship, even if you don't know them enough you can at least approach them with concerns easier.
Good luck man, I hope something positive comes from this.

That is true too unfortunately. I've always been of the mind that if I'm paying thousands of dollars for something, I better damn well learn something and get something new out of it otherwise it is just a grade on a piece of paper and doesn't mean shit. But again, I believe I am in the minority there.
