Figured post this here since its become the big debate lately in baseball. Should runners be allowed to run into catchers at home plate/should catchers be allowed to block home?
Personally it seems to be a bunch of people are bitching about it because Posey got hurt in a freak-play and thus "omg! teh rulezorz are badzzz!!!"
I've heard a whopping 3 cases in which a catcher got seriously injured at home, and honestly don't see why it should change because of one freak play?
Granted Posey's agent is one that seemed to started this all, having a bitchfest about how rules need to be changed to protect catchers. I guess soon they'll be like QBs, who if you put a finger on them, you get flagged and eventually fined.

Re: Collisions at home plate
What about the accusation that the guy launched himself @ the catcher who was 2 feet in front of the plate when he could have slid around the right side of the plate? I think the point the agent was making was that the hit was not necessary because posey was not in the base path. He was out front waiting for the throw. At least...that's the accusation.

I've seen it 10+ times and still see no-way he could of slid around or him launching (plus he'd have to be able to shift his entire body and make a decision in like milliseconds to not have).
Notice the agent doesn't mention Posey blocked the plate while on both knees (supposedly a thing catchers are taught to never do when blocking home plate, because bad shit can happen).
