Re: ...you need to go in person to the DMV
The amount of info you need to renew now is crazy. The lady infront of me was married 38 years ago and they wanted her marriage certificate from Montana. She needed the marriage certificate, the legal name change thing, and birth certificate. She has had that license for 35 years here in Florida and never had a problem renewing before. 9/11 has changed so many things.

Re: ...you need to go in person to the DMV
Not sure we have 4 locations in town. I came to what is normally the least crowded. What makes this shit worse is the way they call numbers. I'm 58. Right now on the screen they have numbers 321, 512, 056 and 225. WTF! I cant even guess at how long. Oh they just called 416 maybe I'm next.

Re: ...you need to go in person to the DMV
Texas DMV > Florida DMV
Being 17, I've had to get my license twice now basically. I got it when I turned 16 in Texas and practically had to get it all over again after I moved to Florida again. Personal experience says Texas was 10x easier to work with. Also, as party said, here they require SO much stuff. My mom almost couldn't get hers transfered for that exact reason.Speed. I am speed.

Re: ...you need to go in person to the DMV
Washington isn't bad because we have a DMV and a DOL. DOL does license (People related stuff) and all that while the DMV does titles, registration, etc (all the car related stuff). I was down there for probably 30 minutes to transfer at title into my name and all it took was signature and my licence. We're pretty set up here!

Re: ...you need to go in person to the DMV
in NJ the DMV SUCKS ass!!! When i was 16 i got my permit and they didnt Stamp it to make it legal...Before i left that day with my permit i asked the lady, is this ready to go can i drive?? "yes its fine go." So i did my time driving on a non legal permit and had i gotten into an accident my dad woulda gone to jail and or lost the house and such due to ONE persons incompetence. Continuing the story, i went to the DMV to schedule my drivers test and they say "Did you just get this?" me: no ive had it for 6months..."well you have to be lying cause this hasnt even been stamped yet" To which my dad stepped in and demanded to speak to the person in charge, Screamed and yelled to the point where the cop on duty walked over and said "Sir you cannot yell in the DMV" FINALLY after ALL the commotion and arguing the person in charge had to call a judge and the judge had to approve me to be allowed to schedule my test without having to drive another 6months on my permit instead i had to wait 3more months before i could get my license. DMV's are stupid and so are the people who work in them.

I've spent a total of maybe an hour of my time in the DMV...I'm 19 now, never had an issue.
