Re: Car won't start
OK first things first. Fire your mechanics they aren't worth shit. If the vehicle is under warrenty take it back and tell them your going to bring the car back every time it hiccups until they fix the problem. Be sure to specify thats so you have a paper trail of their incompitence on repairing the vehicle when you sue them for it burning down.
There is only one thing that can shut a vehicle down and all its accessories at the same time while your driving. You have a main 12 volt power source grounding out. This could be in several areas. First check around the battery and the underside of the hood. What your looking for is burn marks. If none are present you need to follow the main power wire looking for the same thing.
What i mentioned earlier about the power wire to your starter applies in this situation. If you followed the wires and found nothing odds are the starter is shorting out internally. The reason you can narrow this down to the starter specifically is because it is the only companant on the vehicle that uses a load barring 4 gauge wire. A normal 14, 16, or 18 gauge wire which is used everywhere else will melt or pop the fuse before it kills the car.
My best guess is check the main power wire to the starter. Im betting the stud its mounted to will have movement or the wire itself is lose and making contact with the casing for the starter. Just a little heads up for you. If this is going to take time for you to get resolved put a fire extiguisher in the car. Or you could be like me and decide the insurance buying a new car with no issue is worth letting it burn.
Do not let them fool you into is a sensor or computer issue. This is something they should be taking seriously.

Re: Car won't start
Find a hole in the wall spot that looks like he ussually works on them in his driveway. ASE certifications are great to get a job as a mechanic but aren't worth shit in practical application. There's an old saying mechanics have the worst cars on the road. That may sound stupid but its a reality. They spend all day working on other peoples shit so their car is rigged together because they know what they are doing and how to find the issue. That shity looking shop many make fun of ussually has some of the best mechanics and trouble shooters working in it. Thats why it never went out of business looking like a shit hole.
Either way you need either a good mechanic or an auto electrical shop. Either one will find the issue your current mechanic could not. They will try to cut your story short when you are telling them what is happening but make sure you get that part about it shutting everything down while you were driving. That will tell them everything they need to know. It doesn't hurt to have a little sob story to go with it most of the time they will cut you a break on the cost. If they do ask to see the mechanic that did the work and shake his hand and give him a tip 5 or 10 bucks those will go a long way next time you have an issue.
Just as a for instance i changed a steering column out yesterday evening for a lady for 40 bucks. Not because i didnt need the money or the job shouldn't have cost the full 500 but because she showed a little class last time i worked on her car.

So, since monday where they "fixed my car", my car has died twice while driving and twice while starting. When it died while I was driving, it came back on almost immediately, but the check engine and battery lights were on. Turning off and restarting my car got rid of those. I'm putting off my trip to Dallas for my followup from my surgery to take it back to the mechanic ask them to give me my money's worth. This is fucking ridiculous.
enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P

You should. You paid for them to fix the car and they have not done so. The warrenty on their work should be for the labor provided on the project. If they didn't do it right the first time the second time costs them money. Dont be scared to go off and the more customers they have around the better.

I've got to be calm when I go in there. I can perfectly well rip their heads off, but I will get a more effectual responsive if I am calm and composed. That's going to be difficult though. I was told, to my face, that "the no-start problem is fixed."
Let me just get this out of my system right now:
ffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff ffffffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu uuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
That's better.enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P
