You black out
I got blood drawn today to find out if I have a thyroid issue, now my mom got the same thing done, so she was there in the lab. My dad and my brother have the same issue of passage out around needles. Now I'm not a small guy by any means, 6'1", 235lbs. I watched my mom get her blood drawn and it was no issue, i was fine. I think that I overstated my confidence and watched my blood get drawn, and the next thing I know I'm halfway out of the chair with my mom, and 2 nurses trying to wake me up and push my back in my chair while I'm sweating like a waterfall.
Pretty bad day if you ask me.

Re: You black out
I have had the same thing happen to me. I cant watch. However, I have never had a problem seeing patients that are totally fucked. I just do as I am trained then later I let my mind think about if that was me and its freaky but... yeah as long as its not my blood. I can cut my self and be ok, something about my blood going in a tube. When I had surgery they started a line and drew blood and I got a little pale, but after having the IV for two days the next blood draw didnt really bother me. Havent had blood drawn since, who knows maybe I'm tougher since my surgery.

I've blacked out twice. Once, I had some bad chicken, went to use the rest room. Made it to the bathroom, and then woke up 20 minutes later on the ground in a pool of diarrhea. The other time, a really unprofessional nurse took my blood. The only reason I didn't get hurt from fainting was because one of the male nurses caught me before I hit the ground/wall.
enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P
Bigdog-Sweet home Alabama you are an idiot.

Re: You black out
I almost passed out my first time watching a chalazion excision (think big pimple under the eyelids). Blood and things don't normally bother me but that one did. My lips felt numb, couldn't hear much of anything, and when my vision started to go I knew I had to get out of that room lol. Just sat down for a few minutes and then I felt ok, close call though.
The only time I actually passed out was after an injury. I had gotten hit in the mouth with a golf club, went to the hospital, got stitches and all that stuff. That night I pulled 2 of the stitches in my sleep and bled a lot overnight. Woke up with a bad headache, walked out to the kitchen, and passed out on the floor.
