Duffer looking for advice on new clubs
Okay I suck at golf, but played more this last year than the last 10 years combined. Enjoying it more, even tho I can't break 100 yet but playing scrambles with 1 or 2 other guys we been using my shots more and more. (-4 last week +2 last night. woohoo!)
Using clubs that my granddad passed down to my mom who passed them down to me. They are from the 50's, 60's, and 70's. Currently Driving with a 9 wood (not a typo). I need to update my hardware and get a new bag too.
Anyone have advice on buying new clubs? I have NO issue buying used. Would actually probably prefer it but not sure where to even look for such things.
Thanks

Re: Duffer looking for advice on new clubs
Ask around the clubhouse, there are always guys lookin to sell clubs. My dad just picked up a brand new set from a guy who bought them and didnt like them. There are also those shaddy guys in the parking lot with brand new name brand clubs for $50. My brother got a very nice set when he was working the golf course, dude opens the trunk and tells my brother $50. My brother knew what they were worth and said sure.

Not Five minutes before that guy fallowed a caddie to the curb and stole somebodies clubs. Accepting stolen property is still a crime. I've lost Several clubs because of theft on the course only to see them being used by another club member.
find a Sports based Pawn shop, those are your best bet, here we also have "Play-it-again Sports" a used sports store. After you exhaust those try thrift stores, you may find a Diamond but their few and far between.
The Best deals on new clubs will come at the end of the season. Start saving now and hit up Sports Authority, or Golfsmith in October - February.Last edited by SmokenScion; 08-19-11 at 01:40 PM.

go with used clubs...steel shaft irons are pretty much bulletproof. and graphite shaft woods if they are weakened will snap right away at the hosel usually when you test them.
if you like callaways they have preowned site that has some decent deals sometimes: Used Golf Clubs, Pre-Owned Drivers, Irons, Putters, Wedges: Callaway Golf Pre-Owned

Re: Duffer looking for advice on new clubs
I have a decent set of irons sitting in the corner. Right next to my fishing pole. Makes me sad looking over there. I actually went fishing a couple weeks ago, but havent been to a golf course in a while. Sad thing is I can go to the range or play for free.
