Im not a hippy either, and i play rock/metal. I just love the sounds u can make with ur own hands sometimes and i dont smell either, Its just another part of musicianship and the ability to learn something new.

    It's not that hard..

I had to take a few years of piano before I could join percussion in school. While in percussion, my specialty was timpani. It's actually pretty easy once you know who to read notes and tune the timpani's in the right key(s).

    Re: Any drummers here?

I would never label myself a drummer by any means, but I can play a little. I play mostly classic rock and blues since that is what the bands I play in specialize in as a guitarist. It is tough for a 28 year old "kid" to be accepted in the local blues crowd of old timers, but I made it in the circle when I was about 24 and I haven't looked back.

I first purchased a used set of Tama Starclassic birch drums just so I had a complete jam room when I wanted to have people over. I ended up selling that kit, partly because it was just old, but also because I had my heart set on a Gretsch maple kit. I ended up getting a Gretsch Catalina Maple 7 piece kit.

Since the kit was shell pack only, I have had to slowly piece my hardware together. I got some cheap sound percussion cymbal and hi hat stands, but I purchased a DW 5000TD3 Turbo for my kick pedal, and I just love it. I will likely pick up a DW 5500 hi hat stand at some point, or maybe some other. I went with a complete Sabian Xs20 cymbal pack as I was on a budget, and I couldn't beat the value/price point.

So far I am at about $1700 total invested, but I can see this easily becoming a $4000 kit in no time. I actually need to order some Evans G2 heads to replace the stock Gretsh Evans heads that came on the kit.

Evans G2 heads are great! i have them on my kit currently (tops only) and the difference they have made with just doing the tops is phenomenal
