Thread: Internet provider Bricks you cable modem!

Morons. I have a surfboard sb6120 modem and my provider pushed a firmware update today and it Took out my modem. Because of Docsis 3.0 security you cant do firmware updates yourself without some major hacking. There are many reports this year of the sb6120 having issues with faulty firmware updates and my modem is one of the unlucky ones apparently. So I pretty much have a paper weight. I kept my old 2.0 modem and working on that now. I'm going to try to get them to credit my account for the modem but since I bought it and its not rented that may be a pain in the ass. So now this weekend have to go get a new modem, and probably get the slightly newer series so I don't have this issue.
