12-17-11, 11:37 PM #1The Happy Holidays thread
Simpler than saying Christmas/Ramadan/Channukah/Kwanza thread...ah fuck I just said it goddamnit. Oh well.
What are all of you doing to celebrate your respective December holidays?
I just started off a two day holiday celebration for people at my station.
Started off by cooking minced bacon. Then, fried eggs in the bacon grease. Then, cooked shrimp in the grease (marinated in soy sauce with ginger and garlic first). Then, made grits. Added lots of cheddar cheese, the bacon, the shrimp, and various spices including optional ghost pepper flakes. Topped bowls of that with the fried eggs. Drank homemade eggnog with Kraken Rum and Hennesy Privelege in it. On that note, it tastes the same as store bought eggnog, which is much easier to uh...cook...as in you don't have to do anything but add some spiced liquor of your choice.
Took filo doy. Layered layers of that with roasted pistachio butter, raisins, and minichocolate chips. Oh, and there was butter involved. Lots of butter. Oh, and Kraken and Dr. Pepper and more eggnog.
Made minisandwiches out of oven-warmed brie, spinach leaves, rolls (I may or may not have made a joke about collecting tolls so we could eat our rolls), dijon mustard, apple slices (honey crisps), red onion marmelade, and black forest ham. Drank some Shiner Hefferweisen.
Roasted pork. Gravy made from drippings and bacon candied in maple syrup. Various cookies. Bacon/sweet potato caserole. Corn caserole. Fancy baked mac and cheese. Kraken and Dr. Pepper. Milk.
Old fashioned bread pudding topped with a butter, brown sugar, and pecan crust. Topped with a rum (Old New Orleans of course), apple, and cranberry sauce, which may or may not have had a stick and a half of butter and half a bag of brown sugar in it.
Tomorrow: Roast turkey with stuffing. More bread pudding and eggnog. More Shiner.enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P

So, I had the bad luck of picking up chicken stock for my stuffing that had gone bad...needless to say the stuffing ended up being...quite nasty. Putting off the turkey roasting until Tuesday.
