So I broke down and bought one. I got the Core i5 2467M, nVidia GT540 1GB GPU, 6 GB DDR3 1333, and a 750 GB 7200 RPM hard drive. The R3 has actually been getting good reviews and lots of people are even running BF3 with decent detail settings. Here is a video.

I paid $849 for it on the Dell Outlet store, so yes, it is a refurb, but I don't care as I am saving about $200 compared to what it would have cost new with rebates. I bought it because I do a lot of traveling with work and I wanted something compact that I could lug along to take with me when I am away but keep me in the game.

I've got an m11x R1, and have been rather happy with it (runs BF2, BioShock1/2 ok). Alas the R1 didn't handle BF3 at all (~15FPS). My favorite feature of the m11x is the small profile, allowing me to quickly put it away those days I'm not able to game (I've a tiny 1 bedroom apartment, so space is precious).
Good to hear the R3 can do BF3, but I'm currently planning a full blown desktop for the replacement.
still, thanks for sharing your good experiences

Ha ha! Yea... not likely. I have overclocked the CPU a bit though. Overall I am very impressed with the amount of power out of this little notebook. The only drawback, of which I knew of going into this, was the screen size. Sometimes my aging eyes just can't make out everything. Well, I blame my eyes, and also the fact that I normally game on a 27" screen.
Yesterday I installed Alan Wake, and I can play it on Medium detail settings and it runs great. If I change it to high, it bogs down a bit, but is still playable.
