How do I know if a switch is dying?

We use a switch at the station since our building has one...single...ethernet port. It is 8 years old or so. Just had to reset it since ping went up to 2s DL down to 100kbps (normally 90Mbs). A few ports on it are dead as well.
enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P

Uh, you could setup some really long ping's back and forth from 2 computers watching the packet loss statistics....
    from command line:
    Code:
    ping -t IPAddressHere
There are other command switches for ping as well, see them with:
    Code:
    ping /?
do the eternal ping while also transferring large files (10+ GB) across it... see if the added saturation of the connections make it behave badly.....
