Reset BIOS defaults, updated BIOS. Maybe you need to change the sata behavior (like ide, raid, legacy, whatever options you have). Delete existing raid arrays if any.

Did you try using a different SATA port on the motherboard? Also, try another cable just to make sure. Rule out the simplest stuff first.

try plugging it into another computer and see if the BIOS and OS can see it. That can narrow it down quick.

    Re: hard drive issue

Doesn't everyone have a box of extra SATA cables? You are probably right, the cable still works, but I have had a cable die out on me by simply unplugging it and then plugging it back in. I went crazy thinking it was the drive... then I tried a different cable. I couldn't explain how that could happen, but it just did.

This. If it works somewhere else it's either your cable or mobo(try the cable on a different computer too)

    stupid question...

You plug in the power cable? If bios doesn't see it at all, it sounds like it's not spinning up/powered up.

You should be able to put your fingers on the top of the drive while turning it on and feel it spin up.

Krakkens and shit. stop tempting them.
