Building another PC
I'm looking to build a PC to primarily do some editing with. Photoshop mostly and some light video editing.
I would assume that RAM and hard drive space will be the most important parts for this build; does anyone have any advice or recommendations for hardware?

What components do you NOT need? Or do you need EVERYTHING for $500?

And to be honest damage I would save what you got and just opt in for a new board and an i7. Then use the scraps from your old pc as it was not even close to being outdated. I know you wanna stay amd but an i7 would tear up any video/photo work

+1 to Intel. The last two gens have been beating the pants off of AMD.
First off, give us the details on the hardware you currently have. We can go from there.enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P
Bigdog-Sweet home Alabama you are an idiot.

Re: Building another PC
I got a AMD 6950 (unlocked 6990) Which would no doubt tear the pants off any editing project.
And to be honest I haven't trouble shot my last build so I don't know why its gone tits up. Fairly sure its in the CPU or mobo area.
I have 8 gigs of vengeance ram not sure of the speed or timing of the top of my head.

I think you'd be best served to go Intel. You can head over to this side of the metroplex and grab an i5 or i7 CPU from Microcenter. They have the i5 3570k for $189.99 and the i7 3770k for $289.99. Both run circles around anything AMD has. They have a $50 off any Z77 motherboard if you buy the i5 3570k. You can pick up an ASRock board for like $40 with that rebate plus another special they're running right now.
Micro Center - Intel Core i5 3570K 3.4GHz LGA 1155 Processor 407627
Micro Center - ASRock Z77 Pro3 1155 ATX Intel Motherboard 380931
So for about $250 (including tax) you can take your existing RAM, GPU, Power Supply & Case and have a bitchin system.
