500, no. 600-800 is more of a possible range. The graphics is what's causing the price jump. How low on settings are you willing to play BF3?

    Re: Laptop

You could possibly find a Trinity based laptop that'll run BF3 at low detail at about 30-40 fps at lower resolution. You'd probably need to at least double your budget to get something that size with enough horsepower to do any better...

    Re: Laptop

This one should play BF3 (on low) at 40-50 FPS:

    Newegg.com - SAMSUNG Series 3 NP350V5C-T02US Notebook Intel Core i5 3210M(2.50GHz) 15.6" 6GB Memory DDR3 1600 500GB HDD 5400rpm DVD Super Multi AMD Radeon HD 7730M

Not released until 10/26 but something to consider. Core i5, 6 gigs of RAM and a Radeon 7730M

    Re: Laptop

Ok, and just for grins what would a comparable PSU, MoBo, CPU, RAM, GPU. Basically a new setup minus HDD, case, monito, KB and mouse. I don't need a specific breakdown on components, just a ballpark number for comparison. Trying to decide between gutting my old desktop and building a new one for my son, or just buying him a laptop.

Yea I was acutally gonna link the sam laptop. Also

    Newegg.com - Acer Aspire V3-771G-9665 Notebook Intel Core i7 2670QM(2.20GHz) 17.3" 8GB Memory 750GB HDD 5400rpm DVD Super Multi NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M

    Wiki System requirments
    8800GT Recommended GTS560
    3870 Recommended 6950

    The 7730
    AMD Radeon HD 7730M - Notebookcheck.net Tech

    NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M - Notebookcheck.net Tech

There was on with a 640m LE

A ran BF3 with an ATI 4890 on medium no prob. However that was a desktop but with 4 gigs of ram on a 32 bit OS.

Neither laptop has a card with over 195 bit which is gonna hold back the pretty.

EVGA Geforce GTX 480 1536 MB
    Crucial ballistic tactical ram 8gb
    AMD FX 8150 CPU
    Agility 4 SSD 128gb

    Retail 804.22, paid 603.77

Needed a SATA disc drive, Didn't pimp out the CPU fan, had a case, powersupply, and all the cables I need. The onboard sound for the MB is better then my Soundblaster Audigy 2zs.

    Everything from newegg.

    Re: Laptop

I am trying to decide between building a desktop and buying a laptop. If the costs are within $100 or so then I will likely go with the laptop as it has other uses as well, such as school. If the difference is $2-300 then I will likely just gut the case and rebuild.
