I don't want my desktop to look, act, or smell like my phone. I like W7, and see no reason to downgrade. I will be building a new rig in the next month or so, and will be getting a nice fresh new copy of W7.

You would be a fool to not be in appreciation of the contributions Gene Roddenberry made to sci-fi and dare I say the world.

Source, if you a geeky ST fan, you will love the LCARS application I posted. Download the LCARSx32.zip. It's an .exe but I doesn't install anything. Just extract and run. Very functional and fun.

I installed it on my 7 year old alienware laptop that I couldn't get win7 running on and it upgraded from xp pro just fine. It picked up all hardware except a usb wifi dongle and I had to install the nvidia drivers for the 7900gtx.

Win8 ran perfectly fine on that machine.

Krakkens and shit. stop tempting them.

How much of a change to you feel in the desktop and basic window scheme? Not metro.

    Re: Win 8

As far as regular windows goes. It's basically the same as 7. The Folder system top menus look a lot like Word, but other than that the only major change is the start menu(which is now the Metro UI).

Now idk if it changes with the final version of Win8 but I do have an issue with the ease of getting the side menu to come up. On tablets(or laptops with touchpads), all you have to do is swipe in from the side, but with a mouse you gotta put the cursor on the top or bottom corner and drag it along the side. It's not the most natural gesture to make with a mouse, so it takes getting used to. However, I'd have liked an easier way of doing it(maybe have something in the right click menu on desktop or your task bar).

    Re: Win 8

Sorta related. If you use Hotmail... it has now been integrated into Outlook. It now uses the same metro UI. The problem is, that UI isn't compatible with all browsers. Apparently, Outlook thinks that Camino and Safari are mobile browsers. *grumble grumble*
