I'm looking to starting up a website that'll serve as an easy way to showcase my resume/portfolio. I've tried looking at hosting sites, and I feel way over my head; I have no idea what or how much I need.
enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P

Does your University offer a personal web space? When I was in school, my last couple years I used my personal web space to host an online resume with a picture of me and stuff.

They used to, but I'm finding that information hard to come by. I'm also might be having to take some time off due to meds, so that might not be an option.

https://sites.google.com
No need to pay for anything, or waste money on a domain, if all you are doing is hosting a resume and such.

Re: Web hosting
Dont worry! go to Hostgator click on where it says' view web hosting plans ' at the top center of the page. There are alot of plans but dont worry go to the plan on the left which is hatchling plan starting at $3.96 a month, you can pay monthly at $7.16 or if you buy 3years hosting it will work out at $3.96 a month but you pay for all 3 years worth in one go,so whichever suits you better, (i pay on a monthly basis so its a little payment each month but its up to you) the hatchling plan will give you way more than you'll probably need for your website,so you will be well covered. put in coupon code ' 10EXCLUSIVE ' if you do monthly and your first month will cost 1cent, then choose a domain name, that will cost $15 a year (domain name is a website address i.e( www.hostgator.com) if you have one already put that one in on the box on the right. Then choose a username and security pin and enter you billing info you can pay by credit card or paypal, you are able to change this after signing up. You will see your order summary at the bottom just click create account and thats it! Hostgator are excellent ive used them for over 3years never had a problem their support is instant on their live chat and its 24/7 365 days a year. Hope that helps you,and best of luck with your website

Re: Web hosting
Damn, is there any way to get rid of "Melissa" ?
I don't know if the service she's shilling is any good or not, but that's just some damned spam right there.
White: I have some sites hosted at DreamHost. They're private or dev right now (though one should go live before the end of the year). A friend hosted 2 business sites with them in 2006 - 2008. I'm satisfied.
Shared hosting is $10/month (paid 1 year). I have multiple domains on the same account.
If all you're doing is hosing a personal site with an online resume then this is way more than you need. There are zillions of places that'll give you minimal hosting for $5/month.
I asked a similar question in these forums a while ago. WileE says he uses BlueHost. They're $5/month right now.
kibner said he used HostGator (though "Melissa" just pissed me off).
Cheers,

Re: Web hosting
Well you are obviously a real person and so it's my turn to apologize for offending.
I was wrong, and so am an ass, and owe you an apology.
Welcome, non-bot Melissa.
What games do you play?
Edit: ahh, and now I see you've edited the post. Before, it looked like bot-spam. Once again: I'm sorry.
Cheers,
