Re: Need a writer
Maybe have a list of potential articles that people could sign up for. That way a person best suited could grab what they want. One week new phone review. Then pc hardware, then console gaming. Have a rotation and writers would have a little heads up.

Re: Need a writer
I'm not sure what the ultimate goal is for this so I'm going to comment without fully understanding. I'm not sure if us writing an article about new hardware is going to be overly effective. With all the other sites out there, not sure if we could really do any better.
However, what I normally see on this forum is people asking how to fix a problem, build a computer or advise on what would be a better upgrade for them. We mix in new gear talk but I don't think that's the main focus.
I think what may help is articles like the following:
1. a multipart article on building a machine from the ground up including how one makes decisions on parts. Maybe a best bang for buck cheap build and mid-line build
2. How to properly cool your PC
3. How to overclock - safe overclocks and more extreme
4. How to secure your computer - virus scanners, firewalls... Safe surfing...
5. How to troubleshoot a hardware issue
6. How to troubleshoot x software issue
7. Cable management - include photos...
Maybe review what seems to be the top posts for help and see if there are any good areas to get into deeper? Anyway, just my thoughts.

I left it pretty open because I didn't want to say, "I want you to write a tech article like this. Who wants to do it for me?" However, if it were up to me here are my thoughts. I agree that we will probably never be able to compete with say Tom's hardware for reviews and such. We don't have the staff or the budget that they do, so what can we do?
I like the idea about writing a how to on assembling a PC, and Wile is actually going to write a new one once he starts assembling his PC. Articles about what to buy for a certain budget are nice, but realistically they need to be redone every 2-3 months to stay relevant. That is a lot of writing when you consider that you would likely need to write a new low, medium, and high budget system. I am not opposed to it, but not sure if we could compete with sites that already do those well. Where I personally think we could make an impact is if we wrote an article a week about the tech gadget the writer would buy if someone else were paying. I think people would love to read about the new state of the art graphics card, tablet, video projector, or surround sound system that Mark Cuban may buy for his home, but most of us would likely never buy for ours. Just a thought, but that is where I think we could create interest.

I loved Blues Clues when my kids watched it, but I don't see how that relates.
Yes, but with something that makes us unique. Like I remember some guy that stress tested new technology products, and I don't mean OCing them or getting benchmarks. He would drop it, then step on it, then hit it with a hammer, then put it in a blender. He would write about, and take pictures of, each step to say what still worked, and more often than not what didn't. That is something unique that wouldn't be an inferior copy of Tom's or some other site.
Not saying we do the same, but something like that which would be unique.

Re: Need a writer
Ok, how does this sound......
I am planning on building a custom computer case out of wood (we shall see how my woodworking skills hold out). Currently designing it...
If I document / write up a build log every once in a while on it would that be something along what you are thinking.
Some weeks I might not have a lot of progress (traveling for work), but it would be semi-regular.-- Intentionally Left Blank --
