Well if all ur gonna do is play cs, then why not just buy dual 7600 gt's (2x the ram vs a single 7950) and its only $210 on newegg.

Its your call, but consider the 8800 as the 'future proof' card. 100 dollars now might save you 300 in 6 months...

When did video cards start using weird amounts of RAM like 320MB, 640MB and 786MB?

    That makes my head hurt.

    Re: 320mb 8800 vs 7950 GT

its based on the bus speed, and yes its complicated... The 8800s are the only cards currently with this strange memory bus, the smaller cards(8500, 8600s) use the old standards 128, 256, and 512.
I expect that the next Nvidia technology will revert back to the standard amounts, and the 88xxs will be the only cards to ever use these odd memory amounts

    Re: 320mb 8800 vs 7950 GT

the 7950 gt has 512mb so i think that this card is sufficient for now.....as of right now I 7950 GT 512mb is what i am aiming for...until 8800s drop in price....maybe 240-270 range.....

    Re: 320mb 8800 vs 7950 GT

    Well...how bout this?

    http://www.directron.com/x1950pro100196.html X1950 PRO PCI-E Video Card 100196, 512MB GDDR3, CrossFire and Vista Ready, w/ TV-Out and Dual DVI

    compared to a 7950 GT?

The ATI 1950 pro is bit cheaper....but is the performance on par with a 7950 or is it better ?

    Re: 320mb 8800 vs 7950 GT

The 7950 is the stronger card, but performance is probably close enough for all intensive purposes especially given the price difference
