I can't get BF2 to work...

Okay so while I was away for a few months in training my girlfriend's PC took a crap and I told her to go ahead and take parts from mine to get hers working. Since I came back I decided to get a new machine but it's gonna take a little bit of time before I get it. So I'm trying to get BF2 to work on her PC so I can play a bit. It keeps crashing right after the splash screen and I don't know what to do. If anyone has any ideas please lemme know or else I'm gonna be forced to play WoW for a little while and I had been totally jonesin' for some bf2.

do you have enough memory? the right video card? (vid/graphics are important as well as memory) try going to the troubleshooting tips etc.....im not a computer whiz but thats what i would do.....and make sure the parts u r using are all compatible....i'd unistall bf2 and install it again as well

I don't know if this will relate.. this was a problem I had it BF2142... BUT

Run the dxdiag program and see if directx is working properly. I had the strangest of problems on my machine. It turns out when I ran directx diag, It would crash in the 'direct input' area. I had no clue why. I found out the USB rocket launcher I have (which installs itself as a Human Interface Device) somehow breaks DirectX's direct input. So if I have my USB rocket launcher installed BF2142 crashes to desktop before getting to the logon screen. Weird bug, no means of detecting it other then I decided to remove all 'input devices' to try and figure it out. I was really getting mad, too.

this PC should totally be able to handle the game, I mean it's no powerhouse or anything but it should get the job done pretty much everything in this machine used to be in mine and used to play the game no problem. I even went to the EA website and tried their stuff. As far as the suggestion about an interface device I checked and she doesn't have any... I was so hoping it would be something cool and easy like that hehe. Thanks a ton for the suggestions. hopefully someone else might know how to fix this up.

Have you gone through the usual checklist of drivers to confirm that are up to date? Video, sound, motherboard, etc.

did you do a fresh install or was it installed already. BF2 is REALLY picky, it sounds stupid but its worth a shot.

I did make sure everything is up to date, even ran the live update to get new drivers for the motherboard. And this is a new install of BF2 but I'm gonna go ahead and try to uninstall and reinstall. This is MOST perplexing heh.

I had to do a reinstall also after changing the most minor crap. It is REALLY pissy about stuff.
