Yeah, Intel really has no incentive to really up the performance... Their big thing is they want to get more into the mobile computing space. The new Haswell parts will likely find their way into Windows-based tablets and mobile computing platforms. Between Haswell and Silvermont (next gen Atom) they're going to make a huge splash in the mobile market that's been dominated by ARM-based CPUs for quite some time.

Recommend GE Clear Silicone II* Caulk on the outside of/at the junction of connectors where they meet sockets. Has a crazy good temperature range, -65 to 400F. Have used it to secure vacuum tubes in in their sockets for upside down chassis. Big plus is you can just peel it off if you need/want to.

I used to travel with 50ish laptops + network printer to out of state orientation sessions for the University. I don't miss hauling all that gear around. Anyway, have you thought about a gaming laptop instead? The new 4th generation Haswell technology will breath a lot more power into portable options. If you want a bigger screen you can pair it with the 720p projector idea. I don't know if you are playing games that require a full size dedicated video card of it the mobile equivalent will cut it for your situation.

Zip ties. You should be able to secure all cables and mount them securely with zip ties. Manage the cables neatly and tightly.

50 laptops and network printer --- on a plane?!!??!?!?!?
If I was driving I wouldn't be having the issues I currently do.
I am currently looking into projectors (mini/pico) that do 1080p@60hz or 720p@120hz.... not using a bulb, as the vibration will kill those.
I got word from my boss's boss that I might not be going home for some time.... so while almost all the parts are delivered, I won't be able to build it quite yet.-- Intentionally Left Blank --

Re: The Airplane Carry-on mITX Titan build
I would carry on 2 large duffel bags of cabling, switches, the projector and my work laptop. I would overnight drop ship the laptops and network printer in pelican cases (yes it was very expensive). I would arrive onsite 2 days before the event and collect the shipments from the convention hall and set up everything the day before the event and do a dry run on the convention space network. Hint, hotel networks NEVER work the way they promise they will when you sign the contract no matter how much detailed instructions you give them to make sure things are configured properly. They would hold 4-8 orientation sessions in those spaces over a 2-3 day period then I would box it all up and ship it to the next location. At the high point my team of 4 techs was swapping out and would cover 12-18 out of state events per year. Since Arizona hit the budget crunch a couple years ago and the Universities budget took a hit those events were canceled and I hope they never return. I got to see some really fun cities (Philadelphia PA, Seattle WA, San Jose CA, Chicago, IL, etc) but giving up our entire weekend was not fun. The highlight of the trip for me was sitting in the local restaurants and having students that were there for orientation asking questions about college and Arizona in general and then would see me later when their parents weren't around and ask the questions they couldn't ask in front of their folks.

Re: The Airplane Carry-on mITX Titan build
I am trying to build a full desktop that I can upgrade to keep current 2+ years. That I can transport by plane when travel requires plane travel. And be as-powerful as any desktop can be.
I was thinking that I could turn this computer into one of those suitcases that get stickers on it from all of my travels..... that would be fun.
In other news, I learned that the motherboard I want to use won't be released until July sometime. So I have a while to wait.... on the other hand, I don't know when I am 'allowed' to go home so it very well might be in july.....-- Intentionally Left Blank --

I seem to recall that someone made ATX cases that worked like suitcases with a VESA mount for LCDs on the side panel. If I had Internet service I would find you a link.
