Help Hub Out!
I need to get a new cell phone, and I surely do not want to renew my contract with Verizon, thus loosing my Unlimited Data (supposedly "grandfathered" in, but heard if you renew, you lose it).
I currently have an HTC Thunderbolt, which was discontinued and I've been having problems with it. I was looking on Amazon and was wondering if an unlocked phone would work? No contract phone? Or what?
When it comes to cell phones, I know jack diddly squat. What type of phone would I get (unlocked, no contract, etc.)?

Not sure if this will help but:
Unlocked Cell Phones - Newegg.com
..I have bought two unlocked phones, both from Newegg...a Nokia E63 and a Nokia N81 8G
No issues. The E63 is the best phone I've ever had. I'm not sure if your carrier will let you use an unlocked phone. (My carrier only uses unlocked phones.)
Just be sure to read the disclaimer before you order.

No, online AT&T and someone else. For phones that were unlocked, I was going to suggest the Galaxy S4 Nexus Experience or the HTC One Nexus Experience. Both are pricey but seem totally worth it. That being said, there are "stable" nightlies out for rooting the S4 that comes with a contract and I think for the One as well. At least for Cyanogenmod that is. It's a fairly simple process nowadays to use a custom ROM/custom everything else for a droid.
enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P
Bigdog-Sweet home Alabama you are an idiot.

I have the same issue as you.
I have been 'grandfathered' in to unlimited data and if you renew your contract by using an upgrade you lose it.
I walked into Best Buy, and paid 750$ for my Galaxy S4. That is 550$ over what it costs to upgrade to it. I figure it will pay for itself in a year not having to pay overages for the 10GB of data I use a month..... thats what traveling for work does to you.....-- Intentionally Left Blank --

Re: Help Hub Out!
I got the S4 a few months ago and broke my grandfathered contract. After reviewing just how much data I was using, it was a no brainer. I believe it was around 2gb for the month and now I'm on a plan with unlimited call (was only 400 min before) and text and 4gb of data for pretty much the same price.
You think youd miss it until you go a few months and notice that you dont even come close.

Re: Help Hub Out!
I guess that is true.. I mean, if WiFi is available, I always use that instead of my data. Which is practically all the time. Use WiFi while at home and at work. Hmmm, it's just the principle of the matter... If I'm "grandfathered" in, then why the fuck am I losing it. Doesn't that totally go against the definition of being "grandfathered" in to something - meaning you will have it no matter what.
Lame, lame, lame, lame... and lame.
Also the fact that I've been with Verizon for 10+ years.. common now - they should be sucking my dick. Not me sucking their dick.
