You shouldn't. The 2 x 580s will keep that old i7 on life support for a while.

I think BF4 will be more stressful on processors than BF3. I'd be more worried about your 1st gen i7 than the dual 580's you have. It's been optimized to better utilize the CPU.

Thanks. With that being said, my motherboard is a Asus X58 sabertooth. Now what kind of processor can I put on that? I know very little about chipset but I that that has to match.

I saw some crazy 6 core i7's on newegg for $500, will those work?

    Thanks Guys

The six cores are socket 2011. You have a (not looking but I'm betting) socket 1366. So no. You could not. You would need to get a 1366 cpu. Not sure what the best 1366 is at the moment, but might be better off getting a new mobo and cpu combo. If you go 1155 you won't have to get more memory. If you go 2011 you'll need more memory because they are quad channel boards.

Krakkens and shit. stop tempting them.

I am digging it. I was given a big budget for gaming PCs by the boss. But I am waiting for Black Friday for maximum purchasing power. I have not built any gaming rigs in some time and I have to get up to speed between now and then so this has been helpful.

Intel i7-980x is a six core multithreaded CPU for socket 1366. There are some other variants (970x, 990x), but they are all pretty pricey.

Re: Graphics cards and VRAM: Nvidia 770 vs 760, and 2 GB vs 4 GB

My last computer was a 1366 socket CPU, Core i7 920. I bought it the same month they were released. In the last few months I had been thinking about also just upgrading my CPU to something else on the 1366 socket but ultimately I decided against it. It may seem like there isn't going to be much of a difference between the Nehalem and the brand new Haswell because they are all close to the same speeds and quad-core but trust me there is. The new Haswells are lower in power needs and they are also just more efficient for cycles. You should see a 30%+ improvement.

Because of this I upgraded to a Haswell machine July 4th and I'm very happy with it. My new build was about $1400. I'd highly suggest doing this since it should last you another 5 years like my Nehalem system did, with only GPU upgrades in between. That is of course if your current system no longer meets your needs.
