    Upgrading for BF4 need advice

Sup doods. With the issues of BF4 not starting up it was the final straw where I realized I had to upgrade my comp. Luckily enough I'm in a good position where I have money thanks to a well paying job.

I ordered a GTX 660 ti and an AMD FX 8350 (8 cores fuck ya). Completely forgot my motherboard wouldn't support the processor so I need to get a new motherboard and memory to suit it. So far I have an idea of what I'm going to get: ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0 AM3+ AMD 970 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS - Newegg.com and G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Desktop Memory Model F3-14900CL9D-8GBXL - Newegg.com .

Only thing I'm worried about is I'm not sure if my power supply will handle the new load. As it is it runs 550W The graphics card says it will take at least 450W and the processor take 125W. So I'm just concerned if it can handle everything else with those 2 beasts. Personally I want to avoid the extra cost of buying another power supply so any and all advice is welcome

Thanks and see you in game mofos >

I doubt the 660ti will actually pull 450W. I would recommend (given the reported problems with AMD CPUs and the issues in general in terms of performance with them as well) that you return the CPU if possible. Intel is King right now. It will also only suck 80W if you're getting a Haswell.

If you don't return the CPU, make sure to PM Wile so he can link you 2 patches for Windows that help somewhat with the AMD issues.
enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P

intel's are pricey. Again I'm in college saving is the name of the game. I did some research and the one I found was better than the cheapest intel I could find. Which was like 60 bucks more.

Re-read the nVidia specs. It says the max draw of the card is 150W and recommends a 450W power supply as a minimum.

GeForce GTX 660 Ti | Specifications | GeForce

Your 550W power supply will be fine.

You should be fine. TDP for your GPU is 150 watts, mine is twice that and I'm only pulling 350 watts, max 400 watts in BF4.

Just to clarify, TDP isn't max draw, it can draw more than that but it probably isn't MUCH more than TDP.

It's not... but nVidia does a good job of recommending a 'minimum' power supply... which is typically 3x the TDP.

Also, overclocking will draw more power.

Did you measure that at the outlet?
