Windows 8.1 Live!

For all you Windows 8 users, the Windows 8.1 update is live. Just go to the 'Store' app and download from there. It will not be available via Windows Update. Downloading now... 3.46 gig update. Yikes!

As a side note, anyone who is going to be playing BF4... upgrade now to Windows 8.1... you'll get better performance.

You may get better performance, the WDDM drivers were updated but Frostbite 3 doesn't support DirectX 11.2

Also if you upgrade you will lose all your installed programs.

8 -> 8.1 shouldn't according to multiple people here at work. 7 -> 8.1 not so much.

Frostbite 3 will likely add DX 11.2 support, because The Xbox One supports a superset of DX 11.2. I'm sure it will be patched in like they're doing with AMD Mantle.

Oh... and Frostbite 3 supports DirectX 11.1, which is a Windows 8 only thing... so any way you slice it. Installing Win8.1 will yield better performance than Windows 7.

If they add 11.2 they will have to change what version of Visual C++ they are using as they are currently using 2012. I'd be surprised if they take the effort to do that.

VISUAL STUDIO 2013 WAS RELEASED ON MSDN TODAY!!!!! I didn't think it was coming out for another month, and it isn't for retail, but MSDN people get it now! YEAH!!!

Successfully updated to Windows 8.1. Had to uninstall Classic Shell and install the latest and greatest to get it to work right with Win8.1... but after I did that... I'm good to go.
