Router Suggestions
I think its time to finally upgrade my router. I believe I have gotten my money out of my Linksys WRT54G and am in need of something that will keep up with the video streaming on my home media server. Currently there is some wicked buffering going on, thus making videos impossible to watch. There are a few other things I'll be looking at (AV, firewall, etc...) but I have been meaning to get a new router for some time now. I think the one I have is at least 10 years old...
I currently have two wired connections to my gaming PC and media server and might need at least one more if I decide to run a line to my Smart TV (where most of the media will be streamed) for a more stable connection. So I would need 4 ports on the router but would also be OK with 8 ports if Im inclined to wire all the TVs in the house one day.
I dont know if it matters for the actual internet connection, but I currently have Comcast and purchased my own Surfboard modem.
Thoughts? Im looking to stay in the $100-$200 range.
Expensive over-the-top e-peen suggestions need not apply...

Re: Router Suggestions
I just picked up the ASUS AC1900
Amazon.com: ASUS (RT-AC68U) Wireless-AC1900 Dual-Band Gigabit Router: Computers & Accessories
May not be the cheapest but I'm connected on my new ASUS G750 laptop at ~700MBit right now

Re: Router Suggestions
Yeah, dual band is nice for lots of reasons, and 802.11AC is the future.
Tomato and DD-WRT was supported on the N66U. Don't know about the AC68U. Enf: do you want to run a custom firmware?
Rush2049: If you just did the research, can you tell the the difference between the AC66U and the AC68U ?

Re: Router Suggestions
The 68U has a faster 802.11n speed (if your client can support it)
The 68U has WPS setup (but I recommend you disable it)
The 68U can act as a bridge or a wireless repeater if neccessary
The 68U can have a dual internet connection (66U can too I think, but it was a firmware added feature)
The 68U has 1x USB2 and 1x USB3 (66U has 2x USB2)
The 68U has a wireless on/off button and an led off button
and this last bit I am not 100% sure on... but I think the 68U has a faster processor (dual core) and a bit more ram......-- Intentionally Left Blank --
