    Winamp was great back in the day. I don't really get all of the hate for it. Sure, it picked up some bloat over the years (like nearly every other media player that wasn't specifically designed as a lightweight alternative). Winamp Lite is still essentially the classic lightweight version though and has been available the entire time. The original Winamp was fantastic and let me get rid of this guy:

    When a company says something is free, then turns around and asks for a fee...... just to be able to basic media player functions (MP3 encoding), that's pretty shitty in my opinion.

    When they wanted a Fee, encoding was NOT a basic function.

    Bullshit it wasn't...you've been able to encode in MP3 with foobar for forever.

    Also, Winamp has been charging $20 for Pro (which is the only way to get MP3 encoding in Winamp) for YEARS.

    It's not something they just started doing.
