I'll have to try that out on a computer I know has Win 8.
Also, how does "Start8" compare to "Classic Shell"?
So, what's the limitation of Windows 7 that makes Windows 8 so much better?

144hz is 2d gaming, its can scale down to 120hz for 3d...this is my monitor

Phyrelight, that's probably exactly what I'll end up doing, so I don't break the bank immediately.

3D monitor? sounds interesting, where can I get a sample of that?
The monitor was listed in my original thread as part of the build list, just future proofing my build as i am sure more games will come out with 3d, you will need to use dual link DVI for 3d functionality. I use display port for 144hz.

BF4 was specifically written to use the directx 11 protocol found only in windows 8

And dex is correct, SSD is a must now a days. Also I use classic shell and I wish I hadn't suffered through a month before I finally broke down and installed it. The interface in win8 sucks balls. classic shell is awesome.

Dex is also correct in that the socket of the MB changes regularly now so a MB that last even 3 years is pretty decent.

Ah, you said 1440 monitor, so I thought you were saying the resolution was 2560x1440. I am very familiar with that monitor you linked as it is the one you can hook up the NVIDIA Gsync adapter to, and people are going nuts over.

I am considering a full blow GSYNC monitor in the future, just to check one out, but it sucks that the higher resolution panels can't run at 120hz or higher.

Sorry about that I thick thumbed the 0 after 144

and yes I will be getting the adapter for gsynch when its available. Its supposed to be a pretty simple module swap on the monitor to implement it.

I like me some hardware hacks. Depending on the price, I might just grab a gsync monitor - but I wouldn't be upset if I had to install the module manually in my current monitor

What's the single unit version you listed?
How is it different from the "desktop kit" version?

When I look on the Samsung website they list a "basic" version.

Also, what's the difference between the Pro and Evo versions? I'm also wondering about the MLC and TLC versions...

    Re: Need partial build recommendation

Ok Barebones is just the drive (no screws, no rails, no cables, no software), kit typically includes the things necessary to transfer your current OS install to the SSD which is never recommended when going to a SSD from a HHD. You should always fresh install on an SSD. Pro is their professional line and is supposed to have higher performance but at a higher price. EVO is their budget line and for me it was a matter of justifying the gb/$ of the SSD Some people avoid the evo line but I love it. Its fast and I have had no problems with it. I back my OS to a windows home server so should the EVO SSD fail I will RMA it and when I get the replacement I pop a boot DVD in and restore my OS from my home server. TLC is a form of MLC which stands for Multilevel cell (2 bits), TLC is triple or 3 bits. Typically the more cells used to store the data the higher the latency. Basically the higher number of cells needed to record the data the shorter the life span of the SSD, Tom's hardware explains it pretty well

MLC vs TLC SSD life span, reliability and models? - mlc - Components
