Re: Need partial build recommendation
I can tell you that one Asus GTX770 2Gb will run BF4 on Ultra Settings and rarely drop below 70fps.
I can also tell you that two of them will run BF4 on Ultra, and rarely drop below 120fps.
The card you already bought will do exactly what you set out to do here (play BF4 on Ultra). At this point, beefing up will either yield you better frames (which won't be noticeable to the naked eye), or more importantly run cooler and with less fan noise. Either way, you are sitting pretty good. Get that shiite put together and join the rest of us BF2 Vets in BF4 soldier.

Re: Need partial build recommendation
A 780 would likely future-proof you only for an extra couple/few months. Right now, BF4 is about as demanding as it gets as far as games go, so a card that can eat it up will likely be able to play pretty much anything for the next year or two. You have that covered.
It might be worth your while to upgrade to the 780 just due to the fact that it will have to work less (more efficiant), create less heat, and have less fan noise (the Asus cards I have are really.....really quiet). Less heat in your case will help everything last longer, and run better. Personally, I would build with what you have, and make the card upgrade decision after a couple/few hours of running around in-game. Then you will know exactly what kind of frames you are getting as well as what kind of heat is being produced and the fan noise that comes with the heat. Either way, prepare to have your mind blown by BF4. She's purdy.

Re: Need partial build recommendation
Yes to large resolution or multiple monitors.
NVidia releases the card and after market companies like ASUS and EVGA customize the card to their brand. They may overclock it and add custom cooler to the card. By doing that you get cards with slightly different stats depending on who modified the card and you also get a variation in prices based on the work done. FYI superclocked and overclocked are typically one in the same. Its just a matter of increasing the core GPU speed or the multiplexer in the memory. They both result in increased performance at the cost of heat (hence custom coolers usually) and power as long as the company can make the card stable they call sell it for a premium

Re: Need partial build recommendation
+1 to what dex said about the 780 being really quiet. Even in BF4 under load I barely hear it running and it doesn't give off but a fraction of the heat of my old GTX570
There is a map in BF4 that is all rolling waves and flags on different islands. The storm rolls in and there is water spritzing up on your view through the entire game. The storm builds and waves comes crashing in. On the 780 on ultra its truly awesome map to play.Last edited by Phyrelight; 01-04-14 at 10:14 AM.

Re: Need partial build recommendation
What do yall think of the PNY cards? In stock $499 FRYS.com*|*PNY
It's similar to EVGA | Products | EVGA GeForce GTX 780 | 03G-P4-2781-KR
and also EVGA | Products | EVGA GeForce GTX 780 | 03G-P4-2780-KR
I'm not sure what the difference between those two are, same clock speeds, etc. Virtually identical except for the look.
Anyways, I only ask about the PNY because it seems to be in stock everywhere.
Noise won't be a problem for me, my box sits inside my desk.
The difference between the PNY (first link) and the one I bought is mine has higher clock speeds, but the texture fill rate of the PNY is 20 Gb/s higher, from 145 to 165. Also, the one I bought has the cooler so the demand may be less with the PNY but the EVGA I bought has twice the cooling power I guess.
Ah well, I'll probably just not worry about it and go with what I have and save the additional $60.Last edited by jmw_man; 01-04-14 at 10:41 AM.

Re: Need partial build recommendation
I like EVGA cards simply because I like their overclocking/monitoring utilities that can only be used on EVGA cards.
Amazon.com: PNY Video Graphics Card VCGGTX7803XPB: Computers & Accessories
that card has a 5 out of 5 starts with 14 reviews on newegg so it sounds good. I told you different companies will rebrand the 780 to make it their own. Custom coolers, better cooling rails, different clock or shader frequencies etc. Same base card just tweaked for a target market.
the PNY brand I am not very familiar with but their ratings are solid, give it a try!

Re: Need partial build recommendation
The thing I hate about reviews is that they are usually written immediately after installing stuff and trying it out. The new components are also usually an upgrade over what they used to have so there will always be a lot of satisfaction to start. A few of the reviews did mention some high FPS. One was even for BF4 (100 plus fps which is nice).
I'll probably definitely try it out. Only thing is, I read somewhere that EVGA cards can be overclocked and the PNY cards cannot. If that's true, what kind of performance increase do you get when you overclock the 770 cards? Would it be possible to surpass the performance of better cards that can't be overclocked?

Re: Need partial build recommendation
JMW_Man,
For me the two most important things with a company are
Warranty
Service
EVGA used to have two part numbers for all their cards. One was with lifetime warranty and one was for a 3 year warranty.
I prefer EVGA service over PNY. However, PNY was fairly responsive when I had to replace a card. EVGA will sometimes let you cross-ship for an extra charge.
Zotac took over a month to RMA one of my cards.
I'd worry less about overclocking over warranty and service. Heck, overclocking may void your warranty but I think they've gotten less strict about that lately. If you're set that it should be overclocked, get the superclocked and be done with it. Easier.Last edited by RhysJD3; 01-04-14 at 06:34 PM.
