Video Capture
So after researching a lot on video capture software and hardware it seems the pass through video capture dvr hardware is the best way to go because it doesn't put a strain on the PC system hardware. And if I get the right one I can use it with just about anything with AV signals.
Do you any of you use any video capture hardware? Do you like it?

Re: Video Capture
I recently had a client order one of these for a classroom situation where they needed to stream/record for the remote teacher.

Re: Video Capture
I'm looking for something that is strictly AV pass through, no computer required for capture. I want to get a device that I can use for recording my PC but I also want to record my FPV flights so I have a record of everything that went down, in the event I go down during a job.

I personally have an Avermedia Livegamer HD which I use to capture stuff off of my retro rigs. It has an onboard processor that handles the capturing and puts NO strain on my system. It captures up to 1920x1080 resolution.

But I guess this won't suit you as you want a device that is 100% portable. They have the Live Gamer Portable, which is similar to the device Kanati posted, but this one acts as a pass through device. You can run HDMI (or PS3) in and the HDMI out to your monitor. It also has audio pass through. It needs USB to power it (either into a computer or a USB wall plug), but it doesn't require a computer to capture as it can use a class 10 SD card (only captures at 720p on the card).

Here is an LGR review of the Live Gamer Portable. He pretty much convinced me on getting the Live Gamer HD, but he appears to like this device as well:

I also use Nvidia Shadowplay for recording higher resolution stuff. The sound on Shadowplay sort of sucks, but hopefully it will get better with future releases.

Re: Video Capture
If you're on a decent gaming rig you should be able to use software for recording your pc gameplay. 2500k or newer, good vid card, 7200rpm hard drive are the specs needed to record 720/1080.
I'm pretty happy with Dxtory. Limited impact on system resources, great quality, ability to separate audio tracks (game, mic, teamspeak/skype), best of all small file size.
Additionally unless you're recording xbox or ps3/4 material I don't think there's any need for 3rd party recording hardware. The discussion in this link really broke down the need or lack there of for recording hardware (https://obsproject.com/forum/threads...ard-help.8024/).
Also, through my reseach without paying a couple hundred bucks for a professional codec I highly recommend the Logarith Lossless Codec. Best quality to file size relationship.

I think this will be the one I go with when I get the cash.
