3D TV's were never going to take off. The only reason they sold ANY is because every decent tv had it as a "feature". You couldn't avoid it.

No-one was clammoring for it, yet every tv company was shoving it down the throat of consumers. Nobody wanted to buy or wear silly-ass glasses (which, in many cases cost more than real Rx glasses) to watch content that didn't look as good as its 2D counterpart. It was a gimmic that will be gone as quickly as it showed up. Now that 4K tvs are starting to trickle out to the marketplace, expect 3D to be a thing of the past.

And we can thank all of the MyFace users for bankrolling the Oculus purchase. While I don't think it would be any good for shooters, it would have been off the charts for MMOs and flight simulator type games.

The only way 3d will ever take off is when it can be done without glasses. Kind of like these guys making flying cars. Yup its a car, it can get off the ground, but you added wings. In each case the idea is what people want but the product isnt. Technology is getting there but trying to short cut it wont make people want it.

Oh, well you didn't specify 3d tv, I was talking about how every single movie gets theatrical released in 3d.

It's probably the last you will hear of it, too. Now that it's owned by MyFace, it will either get shelved, or turned into a shit phone booth of sorts. Or worse yet.....turned into a 3d system for MyFace flash games.

    Re: Easy come, Easy go.

I was talking with Alundil about this earlier, and I see, or at least hope for, one of two conclusions:

    1. FaceBook allows the developers to continue doing what they are to get this off the ground, and adds more developers to implement it for their social media goals.
    2. All of the chicken littles are correct, and it goes to shit.

If #1 happens then it's a win for gamers even if it has other uses we don't care anything about. If #2 happens then I almost guarantee that some other group of developers will come in with a similar product that takes its place. There is money just laying on the table waiting for someone to pick it up, and I am betting someone, either FaceBook or someone else, will.

    Re: Easy come, Easy go.

Facebook is for socializing, if they can turn the VR in a virtual meeting room for work functions or a or a copy of your living room and you can visit with family members that live far away in VR it will be huge. Imagine landing in your Facebook virtual house as a portal and you can walk up and down the block to your friends houses and socialize, conduct business etc.......you guys really need to think beyond gaming.
